Don't worry about getting the expansions at first. You can play without them and will do so regardless until you play the game enough to know if you like it. Just start with any race/class you like. All of them can solo, and the instanced queue times are good for everything as well. Just focus on doing the main story quests and your main class's quests and you'll progress quickly enough.

They're making PvP and PvE completely separate. That means once you enter Wolves Den in Limsa, or in Frontline, Feast, Fold or similar PvP areas your hotbar automatically changes to PvP specific skills that are balanced for PvP and are easier to balance changes to.

Gear will not longer have an impact on PvP, only cosmetic.

Everyone will be the same level and you can enter PvP from level 30 when you've gotten your job.

Some of your skills will be combo skills. Once you push it once, the skill will change into another skill, which changes into another skill. Think your 1-2-3 combos combined into one single button press to make you more aware of the environment and the action instead of focusing on your skills.

I'm not the person who has been going around and posting it in threads, but Black Desert is what has done it for me. I just started playing it recently but I haven't felt this way with a MMO in a very long time. I like exploring the world, being able to climb up seemingly anything to get to new places, the fact that it feels like a huge sandbox and that you actually have to put in some effort to find things. I like some of the things I've heard about it that remind me of FFXI, like boat rides that take 45 minutes to cross the ocean to a far away continent. I like that there's no warping around or fast travel. I like that there's no loading screens or instances from what I've found. I like that the combat is fast and action based with an execution requirement instead of FFXIV and WoW's babby easy shit that they continue to dumb down more and more even though it was never hard to begin with.

I gave FFXIV a long time to improve. I started playing it back when 1.0 released on September 1st, 2010. I bought the Collector's Edition. I got to see how the game was absolutely fucking devoid of content and had a massive copy-pasted world with absolutely nothing in it except little crap huts with Aetherytes at them where all you could do was levequests. I got to see how the game progressed and I came back for the Legacy campaign. Things were seeming promising back then. I played for a bit, got my Legacy status solidified, then stopped while I waited for A Realm Reborn to release. When A Realm Reborn came out, while somewhat similar to WoW, I wanted to believe they'd build upon that foundation in a positive way and take it in a more unique direction, or at least a direction more like FFXI. Instead they've done nothing but copy every single bad step and decision Blizzard made along the way and have proven that they don't give a flying fuck about making a good game anymore, but instead are focused entirely on lining their pockets with more money and impressing their shareholders.

I had such high hopes for this game but Stormblood is what really shattered them. I've given up hope, and I'm not going to defend this game anymore and try to get people into it. Play it if you want, just know you're playing a kusoge that's only going to get worse and worse as time goes on.

If you're talking about the Value Packs they're the same thing as a subcription, which only lasts for a set duration. FFXIV on the other hand, will actually be selling permanent EXP boosts in the form of letting you straight up buy a character that's at the end of the game, and it costs a lot more than a Value Pack does in Black Desert.

But the boost is to 60 which everyone is already at. They won't have more time to prepare since tomes are still gated. Hell if they weren't gated that would make it even easier. Plus once again there is no raiding 'competition' in XIV. You don't even get an achievement for being world first or realm first in XIV. Player constructed races are not reasons to avoid boosts.

I've been in the same FC since the early access of A Realm Reborn. I was with these people when it was just a linkshell in 1.X. I've placed in the top 10 and top 100 for ranked PvP, and I've completed most of the game's raiding content even though I don't actually take initiative to do it because I think raiding is dumb and gay and that most raiders are insufferable people.
