Civ 5 > Civ 6

Civ 5 even looks better
>>

The shame is CIV's art style only looks at it's best maxed out..

Well you forgot the the bit about Civ 6 being absolutely garbage, but yeah it is a little unfair.

what the hell is firaxis doing? it's about time for a expansion for civ 6 and xcom 2.

Yes, that actually is unexpected.
>>

This. There's been 2 Civ games since Civ5 and Civ5 still has better gameplay, better graphics and better everything than the others.
>>
>>378112762
Civ 2 is still the best Civ game.
>>
Is there even really a reason to play Civ6? Isn't it just less content all around? Maybe this will teach them to stop "improving" upon their previous vanilla game and instead improve upon the previous game and its expansions.

I sure haven't found one yet. The reviews just seem to be getting worse over time.

I know what you mean - especially in diplomacy. I mean, fuck, you can mute leaders in MoO 2, a game that's now 21 years old, and you still can't do that in Civ 5. You've got to sit through their "how about we do a research agreement in exchange for you giving me 1000 gold and all your iron and your only ivory and nothing from me?" as many times as they like.

You're right, of course, but past games have shown that the Civ devs generally have good ideas but bad implementation in their base games, only to fix them slowly over time to create really good shit.

Of course you want the base game to be good immediately, but it's more of a history of the series thing, never buy these before a sale/expac.

You're expecting it out of the wrong series, retard. Civilization has always been like this, ever since the beginning. That's why it's retardation to compare Civ5+2 expansions to Civ6+0.

Tastes differ, of course - I really like grand renditions of folk songs, but Sogno di Volare is magnificent too. It's like arguing over which diamond is shinier.

i hate how this is acceptable. Civ isn't even a sim game that absolutely requires a lot of content, rather it's pretty repetitive, never mind that Civ6 is more of an improvement over Civ5 unlike the jump between previous Civ games.

Indie strategy / base builder games like Rimworld manage a more solid gameplay minus the pretty graphics.

i blame those leader movie graphics or whatever. Also one of the reasons I'll never bother with custom civs since it'll just never fit in.

no one asked for a sequel and they still made one thats the issue, theres not enough differences to grant a sequel

Civ 6 is just as good now as Civ 5 is with all of it's expansions. Civ games always age like fine wine, so I'm pretty stoked.

Most mods will blow the base game out of the water, however, especially with Civ's community being large and dedicated.
I don't think I'll ever stop playing modded Civ 4 at this point, and I think I've just found a cocktail of Civ5 mods that'll quench my Civ addiction.

>>378127792
The Civil War scenario in 5 was exhilarating. It would perfect for multiplayer as well, if Civ5 wasn't so retarded about multiplayer and modded games.
Haven't tried any of 6's scenarios yet.

Are you a Paradox dev or something ?
Stellaris is the most pointless game ever, literally nothing ever happens in it; at least the Endless games have a cool background story.
>>
>>378117726

wow men you Ctrl+v are broken now.
>>
>>378114257
But Civ VI already have everything BNW+GK had (well except for the Congress).
>>
>>378116780
What are you talking about?
>>
>>378113001
This, I do not like the new cartoony, mobage style.
>>
>>378131943
Stellaris suffers the same problem any of the other games they make suffer, peacetime is fucking boring with almost nothing to do but build buildings and an army.
>>
>>378132571
no, Stellaris is probably the worst paradox game so far
>>
>>378115076
Most games play like this. You usually either get fucked early and have no chance of catching other civs or you end up coasting ahead and can basically choose to win the game how you want. Domination is always popular because it's quick, so long as the capitals are easy enough to get at.
>>
>>378112762
It's just a wild guess but I believe people prefer the comparatively braindead and repetitive experience of Civ V than having to plan district placement for every match. Eureka boosts are also quite a challenge in itself and not something that's easy to get used to.
>>
>>378132571

Stellaris also has the problem of wartime being boring because there's no tactics outside of spamming ships. And then you have the horrible meta of corvette spam being the most optimal strategy.
>>
>>378112762

I only played 5 at launch and went back to 4.
I heard it got less horrible with expansions but never tried it again.
No one seems to like to remember how bad 5 was at launch.
>>
>>378131525

>shallow and soulless

Have you not actually played any of the Endless stuff? The races and world building are top notch.
>>
>>378123768
>it's an army.
the tile represents a certain area of land. You can't cram an infinite amount of ppl/units onto a finite area. That being said, they should still allow for some sort of stacking. Maybe each tile can hold a personel unit and a vehicle type unit. So a warrior or archer would be a personel, while say a catapult or ram would be a vehicle type; infantry + tank would be a modern take. So it would be more like training a unit of soldiers and constructing a 1 vehicle, which shouldn't take up a tile by itself (1 tank vs 100 man unit). It could easily get more complex than this, but that's just it: these civ games are removing complexity and strategy when it comes to military in favor of cultural stuff.

>>378133334

>No one seems to like to remember how bad 5 was at launch.

I have never, ever seen a discussion about Civ 5 that didn't mention how important the expansions were. Especially Brave New World. It's been said multiple times in this thread already.
>>
>>378133808
All they really say is it is good with expansions though.
Not things like civ 6 vanilla is far better than 5 vanilla.
>>
>>378113058
And it makes my computer want to die. It's a 16Gbs of RAM and a R9390 meme machine that sounds like a 747 Boeing playing this game.
>>
>>378134056

Did you just not read the thread, or is this your first time talking with people about Civ, or what? Civ 5 was garbage on release and didn't become what it is until BNW. Civ 6 was crated by the BNW team and had a much better release. These are things everyone knows. These are things people in this thread have said.
>>
>>378132819
Probably more about the price. Civ V works, and everyone knows it works. Civ VI is still fresh as far as Civ games go, so nobody wants to couch up 60+ to get a broken game when they are still enjoying Civ V/IV.

Seriously, they overrate this franchise. It isn't AAA.

I want to like new Civ games but BE and 6 have been disappointing.
>>
>>378134056
But Civ VI Vanilla are the one we got at the present, and it sucks compared to the other game.

Its been fucking years since Civ V vanilla came out. Only contrarianfags were the one probably playing that version at this point of time. Its not the exact thing, but why should people play some overglorified next gen game when the old one is more fulfilling?

You can do the Civ 5 scenarios in multiplayer now, and the 6 scenarios were built for it.

I kind of hated the Civil War one because the best strategy was zerging the capital, but someone interested in that part of history would probably get a lot more out of it. Scramble for Africa was my personal favourite.
>>
>>378123768
Civ is a board game though

What makes you play Civ? The game feels very static to me.
>>
>>378133618
Not him.
Only played the first Endless Space and while the lore was interesting, gameplay-wise it was indeed shallow and soulless.
And the AI was also notable for cheating even on the easiest settings.

The AI in Civ VI is absolutely fucking clinically retarted.
One time i completely dominated my neigghbor who was one era further in tech than me.
The Other time i was two fucking eras further than my tree neighbors and literally nuked their spearmen.
I know it was only on King, but in V King difficulty AI atleast could do something properly.

Is it really that bad compared to CiV AI? I'm kind of shit at V anyway (I still lose on King) but I don't really want the AI to be completely rudderless...

>gameplay-wise it was indeed shallow and soulless.

The first Endless Space was a bit of a mess, but it was also their first outing. They've had five years and a second game in between. The core mechanics are robust, the storytelling is engaging, and it handles races both mechanically and thematically better than most 4x I've ever seen. I've seriously enjoyed how the minor changes between races have serious impact on how I'm playing turn to turn.

Don't remember anything about Endless Space's AI. That game fell into a solved state very, very quickly.

Civ 5 just has more content, doesnt help that civ 6 has worse AI.
Civ 6 was probably better on release then Civ 5 was but Civ 6 just keeps getting shit DLC instead of big expansions.

Imagine a 50 year old sales worker being paid to play Civ.
Then forget that because the AI would still lose 0-10

Prettier graphics don't work for strategy games. Giant units stomping over your buildings, maps of Europe, star systems with the same background and planets that don't even orbit. It's accepted that they're ugly or silly so you better actually make a game that plays better or has more content. Only exceptions I've found are in the RTS genre, that I'd rather play AoE3 than AoE2 because AoE3 is actually very pretty.
>>
At least the tech tree in VI looks better. Not sure about that boost stuff though.
