Because the franchise has, historically, sold less on home consoles and more on handhelds. This is a trend that has gone unbroken since MHF. The fact of the matter is that people want to play this game on the go, bring it to public hangouts, conventions, and parties with other people who play MH, and play locally and make friends with people who are near them. I can almost assure everyone in this thread capcom, atlus, and various other TP Japanese publishers didn't picture themselves during their PS2 hay days that they would largaly be upheld by handheld development. I think it's in Capcoms best interest to try to have a bigger presence in console gaming and to go back to their roots in a sense and I'm sure the same was true for other publishers like tecmo for example who've fallen behind but tried to make up for the lost presense in the console market with games like Nioh. I think MH on PS4 could happen but ultimately if the MH devs are content and capcoms share holders are happy with the profits on handheld it's probably not going to change. I personally would invest in the series but I just want to do it on a proper console and yeah I would appreciate some nice visuals to display on my big ass TV while doing it

I'm here, your post just didn't cover anything I felt the need to quote, I generally agree with the sentiment regardless of how bait worthy it is, I personally enjoy grinding and investing lots of hours into a game though but as I said before Horizon just didnt take advantage of the potential of the combat system, it basically stopped at bows and arrows which made the game feel very weak. The moments you got to use a laser gun breif moments of fun were had but those moments get taken away from you as soon as they are given to you. The meele combat sucks dick but I've given up on western devleopers making a even barely function meele combat system, they just dont seem to make games that way

It probably will be, if anything, the port of XX for Switch being announced like that further confirms the possibility of a PS4 version of the next game. Capcom has been hinting at big plans for the series for a while now, saying they wanna bring the game back to home consoles, and that they wanna breach a western market.

If MH5 was coming to Switch exclusively, we'd have heard something by now, rather than have a port of XX get dropped out of nowhere.

My thoughts, MH5 will be multiplat on PS4/PC/Switch. If you care about games, you'll be happy to hear this. Seems to me like they would REALLY have to change the game to appeal to the West.

Things I can see that would be changes they'd try to make to appeal to the West:

I remember Tri G couldn't crack a million worldwide on Wii U, and that was with 214k coming from Japan. So about 500k copies were sold in the West.

Tri on the Wii sold over 2 million copies, but more than half of those sales was from Japan again.

It's curious that Capcom think that the series being portable is the reason why it doesn't sell as well in the West. Even more telling is when you look at the Playstation 4, only ONE game has sold more than 2 million copies: Uncharted 4 with 8 million (though this game was bundled.) Is PS4 really the answer when we've seen that people buy the CONSOLE in droves, but not really the software?

I just don't see console's being the solution to making MH sell in the West. Every time there's been a console MH, it has underperformed next to the portable versions and most of it's sales have still come from Japan. And the current solution is to put it on a console that has only had one game sell in excess of 2million worldwide.

Not saying that MH5 isn't going to be Switch/PS4. I just don't see it working out how Capcom think it will.

Ultimately it wouldnt actually hurt to have a console MH and a portable one too, more sales is good for the franchise and at least trying to start a following on consoles should start earlier rather than later. Japanese games to me have seen a bit of a resurgence this gen and consumers tend to be reacting more postiviely toward them after the gritty shooter era of last gen. I just think it wouldnt be a bad thing to try to do a console MH while continuing the portable line, similar to how some devs did PS4/Vita games, it certainly got them more sales than just focusing on 1 single platform.

You say the Wii game was a bad example, but Tri Wii outsold every PS4 game not named Uncharted 4. Think about that, more Wii owning casuals bought Tri than core gamers bought Doom, Bloodborne, Final Fantasy XV, Dark Souls 3, Last of Us, BamHam and every other title.

The only PS4 games to sell more than 1 million are Bloodborne, Killzone, Horizon and Driveclub. PS4 just doesn't bring in the kind of software sales that Monster Hunter needs. Monster Hunter normally does 4 million in Japan alone. That's the kind of number Capcom are referencing when they talk about expanding the series in the West. They want the West to also sell 4 million copies. The only way that could reach that number over here is on mobile.

Any time I browse stores or online and consider getting a vita, I'm reminded that the memory stick comes separately, and it's required to download games, and it only works on the vita itself, yet it's not built into the system and I have to consider that this might mean needing more than one, or it getting damaged frequently and needing to be replaced. The same way PS1 and PS2s would sometimes just stop reading disks or have faulty memory cards.
Then I just got a DS instead and then a switch even though they're more expensive even after the added price of the memory stick, and there's no garantee the hardware will be any more reliable than sony... I just don't trust sony products, I guess.

The Vita slim has 1gb inbuilt which is enough for all the save data if you plan to go physical. The mem cards are a hard sell but I've been using mine for years without issue. I tried going without but after a certain amount of games you need it to store save data. The console itself has a sturdy premium style build compared to the 3DS though, not being biased but my 3DS hinge is looser at this point and buttons feel mushy but my Vita still feels solid with little ware. Idk about the build quality of the Switch though. I am getting one later when they makeit smaller and it gets some more exclusives or good ports
