The cube is rappidly approaching the hole, and this relative momentum will be maintained at the other side of the portal. With a piece of paper with a hole on it, the gravity gradient doesnt change, but from the point of view of the paper, as the cube is going through it it is going very fast.

The best explanation I've heard for B is actually the hula hoop one. When you toss a hula hoop on something, it enters and leaves at the rate that you've thrown it. You don't suddenly launch upwards, but if the hoop was thrown at a rate of 30mph, you appear on the other side at 30mph. The portals work the same way, but because the other side of the hoop isn't moving, when the cube leaves at 30mph, it gets launched.
