You don't change a variable in a controlled test.
That alone invalidates the webm.
I'll gladly accept that I'm wrong if another webm gets posted where the box gets portaled.
>>
>>378100062
If you put your hand in front of the orange portal, what happens? Do you feel anything? Does the box press against your hand? What happens when two non-moving objects collide? How do you calculate the results of such a collision when their is no force being applied in either direction?

If you can't answer all of those questions you can't decide between A or B.
>>
>>378101837
This. Yet Bfags wont be able to understand that abstraction.

This is fundamentally flawed. The scenarios in which the question lies are ones where the object and exit portals are both stationary, and the entry portal moves toward the object. In your example, both of the portals are moving, and the exit portal is moving backwards, eliminating whatever momentum the forced entry might apply to the object.

>>
>>378101980
Of course we understand, but the argument is fundamentally flawed. In the case of the portal, try to look at it from the point of view of the portal. The cube is rappidly approaching the hole, and this relative momentum will be maintained at the other side of the portal. With a piece of paper with a hole on it, the gravity gradient doesnt change, but from the point of view of the paper, as the cube is going through it it is going very fast.

>being triggered you got proven wrong
I mean, I know 90% of B-posters are shitposting, but a portal is literally a perfect hole. In the game it literally says "Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out" The force of the piston is not being applied to the box, and the box has no initial momentum.
Sorry.
>>
>have an entire universe fly at you
>when you enter the universe immediately change speed to that of the incoming universe with no collision or interference

A logic.
>>
>>378101890
What momentum propels the box.
Explain that to me.
The box is stationary. the floor it is on is stationary.
The portal falling at "70 Mph" is only forcing air through it on the way down.
The box gets engulfed by the portal,
The most the box could do is propel a few short inches because of the excess platform the portal is on slamming into the platform the box is sitting on.

Explain why it would propel itself. The box isn't moving and the location the portal leads to is also not moving.

All I see is B-fags saying it will propel without ever explaining why.
>>
>>378102260
I apologize for saying literally, literally 2 times.
>>
>>378102193
Why don't you just explain it.

>>
>>378102379
That sounds like pure theory to can't elaborate on.
>>
>>378102292
Are you thick? I explained it. Look, portal A is stationary, portal B is moving. The cube is approaching portal b at a speed of 70 mph. You need to look at it from the point of view of portal b, imagine it being stationary while the rest of tye world is approaching it at a speed of 70mps.the other portal is still, and if you threw a cube into it at 70mps it would surely shoot out the other side.
>>
>>378102460
That's what A implies.

The best explanation I've heard for B is actually the hula hoop one. When you toss a hula hoop on something, it enters and leaves at the rate that you've thrown it. You don't suddenly launch upwards, but if the hoop was thrown at a rate of 30mph, you appear on the other side at 30mph. The portals work the same way, but because the other side of the hoop isn't moving, when the cube leaves at 30mph, it gets launched.
>>
>put to portal in a vacuum in earth
>drop a ball
>ball accelerates to the speed of near fucking light with enough time
>people still compare portals to hoola hoops.

WHY
>>
>>378102678
Portals can change a moving object's velocity, which should require a force. Which means they either create a force, or they can somehow circumvent the need for a force to change velocity.

>>378102414
Because there is no real answer because portals violate physics. You can easily argue for both sides and neither side is wrong, because what is wrong is portals.
It's a meaningless meme argument starter. It's Skub vs Anti-Skub. Only, some newfags don't realize it and take it seriously.
>>
>>378102938
>Portals can change a moving object's velocity
they cannot.
>>
>>378103043
Velocity is a vector.
>>
>>378102940
Portals don't violate physics, only simple physics
But you don't need any extreme amount of energy to make them, so not really possible in that aspect.
>>
Fuck it. I entered the thread a B fag, then >>378101837 turned me into an A fag, but let's check the facts.
The cube leaves the portal at 70 mph. Is there any question to that?
>>
>>378102924
Assuming the portal are placed on the top and bottom of a box, the only acceleration the ball is subjected to is gravity.

It will not accelerate faster than terminal velocity, and thus will not reach the speed of light. Since the portals do not accelerate objects in any way.
>>
>>378103091
>but you don't
Meant but yo do
>>
>>378103070
changing vector does not necessarily mean changing velocity.
>>
>>378103107
70 mph being arbitrary here, Idk where the fuck I took it from
>>
>>378103125
Does terminal velocity exist in a vacuum?
I'm not trying to refute you, I actually don't know.
>>
>>378103125
ter·mi·nal ve·loc·i·ty

the constant speed that a freely falling object eventually reaches when the resistance of the medium through which it is falling prevents further acceleration.

"Terminal velocity means that velocity at which the resistance due to air molecules hitting the object exactly equals the force of gravity. So in an absolutely perfect vacuum and a perfectly uniform gravitational field that extends throughout all space, the body would accelerate forever."

Doesn't matter. You break something basic like conservation of energy, you break everything and a lot of things don't fit anymore.
>>
>>378102938
>i ask for an example from the game since apparently there are so many
>you don't provide one
Case Closed
>>
>>378103238
no
>>
>>378103229
No, the portal touches the cube at 70 mph, yet since the portal has no mass and you cannot touch it, there is no matter attached to it. It's an object essentially passing through nothing, therefore it would stay somewhat still.
>>
>>378103303
Portals that are possible by our understanding of physics don't break conversation of energy.

Plus conservation of energy sort exaggerated. There are ways to generate momentum to remove or add energy from the universe perspective.

Think of the idea if you could somehow accelerate the universe in one direction all at once. Such a feat would require a TON of energy of course, but once is all said and done that energy would seemingly "disappear" due the universe unchanged frame of reference.
>>
>>378103408
The part of the cube moving through the portal at 70mph is what's acting on the rest of the cube. Either it's going to pull it with it or break its bond and rip in half.
>>
>>378102513
An alien spaceship is descending vertically towards Earth's surface. It has an open porthole at the bottom, and the inside has an artificial autonomous gravity comparable to Earth's pushing down towards the surface where the porthole is located.
The spaceship descends upon a box, which goes through the port. From the perspective of the people inside the spaceship, the box - alongside Earth itself - is moving. So, assuming the spaceship's impact with the ground is null, when the spaceship makes contact with the surface, does the box jump up?
>>
>>378102849
Ok, let's look at it this way.

I have a wireframe cube. Within the wireframe, gravity works differently. It's exactly the same as Earth's gravity, but it pushes on one of the six sides, which is recognizable.
I turn the cube so that its internal gravity is aligned with Earth's, then I rapidly lower it upon a light die. The die enters the cube. Does the die shoot upwards, or does it stay still?
