Goddammit, /v/. It's ruined vidya for me. No game has ever been as good. Maybe the Civilization series, but only because it's so radically different from TES that it doesn't feel like it belongs to the same medium.

I haven't played any big games in the last three years - except Fallout 4 I guess (very meh).

Is there anything I can buy that won't leave me wanting? Morrowind has created a void for me that nothing, no matter how hyped or fapped-over, has been able to fill.

What? I understand at 13 you may have been stupid enough to think the writing was "intelligent" but it's very rare that the game offers any sort of dilemma for the player or that there is really any meaningful result from one choice or the other.

Why would you project me as being in my 20s, then declare that I only played the game a week ago? The strawman you're looking for would have to be in high school, and you probably should have greentexted "summer" a few more times.

I guess if this is the intellectual caliber of Morrowind's enemies, there really isn't a game out there to match it.

The Morrowind dialogue system has nothing to do with hating reading.
I was reading more books then than I was playing games if anything.
Its just very, very repetitive, and a bad system overall. Its a flat info dump, without even pretend interaction of chaining replies the way newer games do.

Morrowing has SHIT dialogue system.
Morrowind has a SHIT idea to mix dice and action in the worst way.
Morrowind has repetitive cities with no landmarks that you have to learn to move around, instead of intuitive ones where you can just look at it for 5 seconds and deduce where the armorsmith would be.

It's not that things were necessarily better during childhood, but as most people get older, they have more responsibilities (projects, relationships, careers, etc.), and less time to just sit down and enjoy a game for what it is, due to time constraints and the feeling that you're just wasting your time, even if it's in your free time.

At least that's how I feel. I get stressed out easily, too, so it's hard for me to relax.

>if I say I hate reading a lot of words in a different way, and mention that I read books, no one will notice

The dialogue system in Morrowind works via hyperlink. It's the ideal balance between worldbuilding (what you call "info dumps") and roleplaying. "Chaining replies" results in the stilted, juvenile approach of Fallout 4, which not only precludes the use of a gamer's imagination, but which exposes the limits of the game in the very act of hiding them. Morrowind is not trying to deceive the gamer; rather, it presents the gamer with the text as is and lets him do with it what he wants.

>Morrowind has repetitive cities with no landmarks that you have to learn to move around, instead of intuitive ones where you can just look at it for 5 seconds and deduce where the armorsmith would be.
>the cities are repetitive
>I can't find anything

Not him, but as a guy who played the game recently, I couldn't stand the world and the fighting mechanics were so stale that i just quit after about 2 days of playing.
The quests were hardly "good" mostly just your typical fetch and kill with a little bit of story. The game didn't feel engaging at all despite it's advanced skill system. I think you need to take of your rose tinted goggles and see the game for what it is. A tired old game that didn't age well. The faces in the game, the animations and all.
I would argue that it doesn't even hold a candle to the 3D Legend of Zelda games if it weren't for the skill system that was pretty well designed.
>>

>Kept playing runescape for a while after to try to hold onto those feels, but it didnt work.
Ha, I did the same thing as well. Even tried OSRS and /v/scape a few years later, but even those don't feel the same. Nowadays I'm lucky if I can play a video game for more than an hour. And this isn't because I have a busy life or anything, but I think I'm just starting to lose interest/motivation to keep playing.

I have to admit, while I didn't enjoy Dark Souls 3, I admired the way it advanced "plot" via cryptic dialogue and item descriptions. Every year I buy a new Pokemon game (I stopped playing after Ruby Sapphire so there's a lot of 'old' games that are 'new' for me), have fun for about 15 or 20 hours of playtime, then abandon it before taking on the Elite Four.

>>378103137
Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed this greentext recollection. Part of the reason I loved the game so much is that when I first played it I had no idea what I was supposed to do or how I was supposed to interact with the world. I remember the first time I tried to steal something and a Guard showed up to arrest me. That's when I knew my understanding of what a game could be had changed.

I loved it, except it was hella buggy, and some things not very polished (for example, Long Blade being objectively the best weapon class).

I loved the inventory screen (moving windows around without having to change screens and being able to directly place stuff in the world). It was extremely satisfying to open your inventory and decorate your home.

I also loved the equipment system, Two pauldrons, Shirt, Pants, Helmet, Cuirass, Two Gauntlets, Greaves, Boots, Amulet, Two Rings, Skirt, Shield and Robes. Also loved how heavy armors were HEAVY AS FUCK.

Also, the Wikipedia dialog. It actually made me feel more immersed, because you could just ask anyone in Balmora where was the Balmora Cornerclub instead of having to rely on Mapmarkers.
Also, the minimap, and being able to take notes on it.

I think it's because Morrowind's low res textures and action figure models weren't very realistic in the first place, so you don't hold them to scrutiny that much. It's a dreamy fantasy island populated by technicolor goblins. But if you install a graphics overhaul that puts crisp textures over low poly models and gives goblins lovingly crafted nude bodies, suddenly it looks so much worse. FO3/NV, particularly with graphics 'enhancements', dives straight into uncanny valley.

The setting and world building is fantastic but it definitely shows it age in more than just its visuals and gameplay. The fact that everything is in text means that reading in game books doesn't feel like a chore but the lack of variety in basic responses to questions breaks the sense of presence at times.
The completely dice roll based combat feel odd in 3d but it had vary little else to go by. Personally the movement system bothers me a lot more, bunny hopping in an RPG just shouldn't happen.

Some of the best RPG of all times are the Troika games.
Play that, in particular Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

New Vegas, like everything Obsidian touches, is garbage.

I got over it through realizing all the time spent doing useless, inconsequential shit, which could've been better used elsewhere. It just builds up over time.

For awhile I would watch let's plays rather than play the game myself because I was comfortable with the fixed duration of each video.

VtM Bloodlines *is* the best game of all time.
And no I don't particularly like Morrowind, you're confusing me with OP or something.

Are you a former Troika employee or something?
The best praise I can give you guys is that The Temple of Elemental Evil was kind of playable

Fallout 2
Silent Hill 2
Masqurade(You know what fucking game I'm talking about)
Symphony of the night(castlevania)
New Vegas
MGS1,2 and 3

There anon, a few games off the top of my head that blows shit away

Oh and any of the games from the STALKER series

No, you just know the game by heart and can't put yourself in the shoes of someone who doesn't. You can't tell how shit you are or what you'll be facing, and Caius only really implies that 300 gold will buy meaningful gear or training. Then you run into a nix hound and either waste most of your scrolls and potions or die, then you run a gauntlet of bandits who all have several levels on your noob ass, then you start exploring the lower ruins because you didn't know where the cube is. The game is easy once you figure it out, but the introduction is garbage and you're a delusional neckbeard for defending it.

>play morrowind when i was 15-16 in highschool
>friend couldn't shut up about it while constantly saying how shit oblivion is
>tells me about akulakhan, the false gods of the tribunal etc but I don't understand what the fuck he's saying
>have nothing to play a few months after so just give it a go
>game blows my mind(i probably tried it 2 times before that but couldn't get into it and just uninstalled)
>friends gaves me a CD with some random mods he downloaded(i had dial up, he had adsl)
>BLOWN THE FUCK OUT AGAIN
>start downloading mods in the middle of the night with my shitty dial up connection
>had to wait for some werewolf mod to download for 8hrs(it was around 16mb)
>internet disconnected when it was at around 14.8mbs

Such sweet memories, after that I made a list of must have mods and made that friend download them. Thanks Marko you psychopathic cunt, you were a real pal
>>
That has nothing to do with the game itself and is merely about your age. There's a reason why most grownups stop playing games at some point - deriving mental stimulus from them gets harder and harder and on top scales with education. The better your education, the harder it is to impress you. Works in both directions though.

Not that guy but I played the game for the first time last month and knew exactly what he meant, so I went adventuring on my own, did some guild quests and by the time I decided to go back to the main quest I didn't have any trouble. Anyway, so what if someone happens to try to get into the Dwemer ruin and find out that he's still too weak? Then he should go do something else and train then. There's dialogue in the game that tells the player that he'll likely end up going in quests that will be too difficult for a given level so he should just complete them another time.

Most games are boring today because they don't have that kind of ambiguity anymore, they're designed so that a player can just stubbornly keep trying until he succeeds no matter what.
>>
>>378109812
Not him, the game only becomes hard in the beginning if you're a fence sitting mongoloid. If you put your 5 major skills as weapons, invested in high longsword skill but the decided you're gonna be a STEALTH ARCHER so you whine that your 5 Bow skill isn't doing shit or some such retard logic

There's a manual for almost every old game, you can just skim through or directly go to the mechanics to read what you need to know. But because you need instant gratification and want to bruteforce your way through the game like a braindead retard it doesn't occur to you

By "you" I refer to every dumb faggot whinging about the simple mechanics
>>

I completely missed it's prime time, and couldn't even play multiplayer it because I was a kid with no money or internet. I decided to play it long after it was dead and I have it installed even now. It's a fantastic game, except for the vanilla campaign

Modules are top notch

I'm 18 and agree with these posts. I also played Skyrim first when it came out, when I was 12 or so, and at this point I much prefer Morrowind these days.

I distinctly remember playing Skyrim on the day before release. The day was 10 November 2011 and I played my freshly pirated copy. Ran like shit on my toaster but I had a cozy old time...

Yeah, I don't know man. Strange that I was 12 when Skyrim came out, though, considering most people here are in their late 20s - 30s.

This will get shitposted to death but I'm having a really good time with TESO, though that's less for story reasons and more for gameplay and character builds. Was somewhat surprised by it after how mediocre the game was at launch but they introduced a scaling mechanic so you can do what you want when you want it (hardmode content aside, though some people do it at low levels for challenge and bragging reasons) and the faction restriction for story quests has been removed - since that the content is incredibly vast for a MMO and then there's the whole TES lore and RP thing that makes it more enjoyable than other games to me. Though it's not perfect and the UI is bad but at least you can turn it off or install addons to get a proper UI going.

isn't there also a shitlord that uses a bot to post the same thread every day about it being a good rpg?
