OP here, Nioh desu. The game was fun as hell for me and I loved the cutscenes and gameplay.

I think the real reason I'm underwhelmed with Automata is the Witcher 3. I really fell in love with that game and every RPG I've played since then has kind of felt half assed or souless. It's just too good.

Negative non extremist opinion about Nier Automata here.

The gameplay is very fun in the first route, mainly because of the high production values and the novelty, everything feels really good and this route has the most challenge of all of them. The second route can still be fun at time but the hacking minigame being really underwhelming with easy generic patterns even at boss fights ruins the gameplay. If they added a layer of depth to it and made cool original hacking levels it would be a step up. Also maybe some perk where you can kill low tier enemies immediately without even playing the hacking game since it's pointless.

Now here comes the third route where you will finish your build. A level 4 weapon with some damage and critical increasing chips will absolutely destroy everything, even all the bosses in seconds. The gameplay becomes absolutely braindead and very very boring. The third route is an abomination when it comes to the gameplay, the only value is the satisfaction it gives to killing everything so fast.

Otherwise we have longer type of hacking minigames and the shmup, both of which are mediocre in gameplay but add some variation at least. The side quests are not really well done either gameplay wise. Story and world in the game is the selling point and although it's better than most games in this department I don't really feel that it was particularly well written or really original with its themes. OST is great, no question there.

Did you play on Normal because my experience so far couldn't be farther from that. I played on Hard since the beginning and both Route A and B were pretty easy. Route C on the other hand is absurd when you start out with the game throwing borderline unfair shit at you. Honestly, Route C is sapping out a lot of fun for me. The story seems interesting so far but some of these battles in route C isn't even fun or challenging. It's just annoying as fuck. I'm feeling more frustrated with certain parts in this route than any sort of satisfaction after conquering a "challenge".

Hard mode is balanced terribly but basically nothing matters as long as you don't get one-shot. With decent chips and all pods, you do such a ridiculous amount of damage that nothing really poses a threat. Enemies just fold like paper.

Route A: Great game.
Route B: Decent but really fucking annoying and tedious.
Route C: Starts off really good then rug gets pulled out from under you and you have to deal with playing as 9S again but do even more annoying and tedious bullshit.
Combat is really easy until you're doing the 3 key towers as 9S on route C and suddenly there's a couple of enemies that can one shot you out of nowhere, since those are really long sections with no save points you get royally fucked.
Soundtrack is god tier.

I'm not defending it. Chapter select confirms that you are replaying most of the game during 9S's storyline.

Weapon Damage +6 and Shockwave +6 were the only way I was able to beat the game. I would have dropped the game otherwise.

Yeah I really have to agree here. There really should've been some sort of difficulty between normal and hard. In normal, you can tank just about most attacks but in hard, you basically get two-shot by most late-game things if you're not using enhancement items.

witcher senses are only ever used when the quest requires it and is just hold right click to follow quest arrow. you cant actually track monsters or anything out in the world(and why would you need to? theyre all tethered to a small location and never move away)

6/10 game. Had potential, wasted it.
