Neopets always felt to me like they were designed by someone who had no idea as to what makes something cute, and just kind of guessed as to which elements they should emulate from various cartoon animals and Pokemon.

Man, I loved Mr Insane's games. Neoquest 1 and 2 were fun, though very broken games where you had to dump all your points into an overpowered skill. I remember Velm and Panacea even after so many years. Loved Hannah and the Pirate/Ice caves too, really liked how they actually made a plot about that with a war.

Man, the reason I quit in like 08 or so was because of a lack of wars in plots. Viacom really made Neopets crappy. Used to be a tight knit group of developers who liked to have fun, then it became Disneytier crap.

That's what it literally was. During the first few years it was just a funny little project two college kids were doing for their own amusement. They just took silly designs inspired by Pokemon and it became popular. The Shoyru is probably the most blatant example of this.
