Archers tend to be relegated to the girly archetype so they can be feminine but also feel like they could contribute in a supportive battle role. Makes sense but it's played out.

Takumeme is the best archer gameplay wise in FE

he's a utter shit character personality wise

No pic, but Chester from Tales of Phantasia was very memorable. He's the MC's best friend, and in an important early game boss fight MC get's whisked to the past, leaving Chester behind mid fight. After MC gets back to this fight, he's around level 50 with a new crew full of magic, and Chester's stuck at level ~10 slinging arrows.

Now, sensible player's will want to bench Chester at this point. However, there are a few scenes that can be easily accessed where Chester, frustrated with the power gap, trains his ass off whenever the crew is sleeping and gains around 40 levels total, with everyone notices that he suddenly got a lot stronger. To top it all off, he's got the highest DPS in the party, barring MC, by the end of the game.
