What should I expect? never played this franchise before

That game is garbage, but a good introduction to the general theme of the enemies and lore. I suggest you play NV instead, or immediately after getting bored of 4. And then, play Fallout 1 and 2 and get your ass handed to you multiple times

Ignore everything made by Bethesda.

An ok experience, like always bethesda has made a world that's nice to walk around in but this time has little to do outside of KILL LOOT RETURN
Settlement building is interesting until you get to your 3rd-4th and become tired of it, not helped that every settlement keeps bothering you with annoying busywork quests.
Mechanically it's now a decent shooter and the custom crafting of weapons is nice though the rework of the character build system means that every character ends up the same.
There's some very nice moments like the intro for the BoS or the first time you face the new creepy ghouls but the mass effect dialog system never stops feeling immersion breaking.
Overall it's a decent enough game that does something wrong for everything it does right but for some the charm wears out before the game ends, for everyone else there's little reason for a second playthrough because of the game itself and since the modding community is barely there.

It's pretty fun. Don't listen to the /v/ hivemind. They'd soon recommend a broken unfinished game like New Vegas. I'm not even trying to bait. New Vegas had some amazing concepts, mechanics, and various approaches to quests. That being said, I've never, and I mean never, played a more buggy game. Constant glitches, and some of the most boring quests I've ever played in a video game.

The game on its own is ok but as a fallout game its trash. Anyone that played the previous 3d titles can tell you that. Like what most people say, it's the least "fallout" game they've made.

If anyone wants to get a good fallout experience, they'll get either new Vegas or 3. Then of course they can play the first 2 if they want.

I'm still mad at myself for over hyping the game. Very disappointing.

downloaded this for the free weekend, 4 hours in and it's pretty boring. every fucking enemy is a raider and they all use pipe rifles and all carry .38 rounds. what the fuck. where is all the cool stuff

the neatest thing ive seen so far is i killed a bunch of raiders in the basement of a church and then read the leader's terminal and there was a short story about how her sister got kidnapped by nearby raiders who started extorting food from her until she assumes they killed her
