Holy fuck, why is this DLC so brutally hard?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Holy fuck, why is this DLC so brutally hard?
>>
>>378071748
Because it's the best story DLC of all time and it knows it.
>>
Because they bothered to fix the complaints from the main game like too little weapons or too easy bosses, unlike the shit with das3's dlcs
>>
Probably because you went in there at a low level.

I went into it at lvl 50 my first time through it and it was pretty damn challenging. Second time I came back at lvl 80 and it was well silly how much easier it was.
>>
>>378072123
I'm level 79 and it's still kicking my ass.

>>
>>378072178
Getting good is the only way you'll appreciate the story. The game wants you to sink time into it.
>>
>>378072123
Best time to start DLC is immediately after the Fluffy White Dog Girl fight in NG+, assuming you didn't spend the endgame farming Blood Whatevers.
>>
>>378072329
>IMPLYING he made it that far
>>
I like how they put the Living Failures right before Maria, so you think 'wow that boss was easy/dumb' and then immediately you fight Maria. I think they knew what they were doing there

I still haven't beat him

Feels bad man. My most recent character wan an ARC build. I really need to boot the game back up and finish the DLC
>>
>>378072579
I think they were strapped for time and weren't able to make another area for Maria.

Then again, if the lab really was meant solely for the Failures and you've already ascended it, I don't see why they would want to make you ascend another tower just to reach the top of it and fight Maria.

They probably figured that if you liked the game enough to go out of your way to buy the DLC, you were pretty good and would like the challenge. I think it was a good move. It's like devs did with old vidya expansion packs.

I beat every boss in the DLC in under 5 tries including Maria which I one shot, however Laurence took me like 30+ anyone else have the same experience?
>>
>>378072705

Over level to anything about 135+

He becomes a joke even solo to fight by that point.
>>
>>378075873
Laurence is a cunt.

HArdest just under pthumerian descendant
>>
>>378075873

The doll, once you gain 1 insight she will stand up and allow you to spend blood echoes to level.
>>
>>378077189
Yoiu need to have at least 1 Insight (attained from Madman's knowledge or seeing a boss) then go talk to the doll in the dream
>>
>>378071748

Started playing this game. Incredibly boring, I fall asleep halfway through the beginning city. Does the game get good later on, because it's dull, lifeless, and boring to play now. It's not even difficult, it's just a dull slog to play through.
>>
>>378073190
That happened to me. Living Failures is tricky due to multiple enemies and the meteor storm. Maria is tough, but she also has 0 poise and so is completely destroyed by the pizza cutter.
>>
>>378077954
She's also super easy to parry.
>>
How do I arcane build and is it worth it
>>
>>378071748
It's dark souls. What do you expect? If it's to hard you don't have to play it.
>>
>>378071860
It is the best story DLC by far
>>378071748
Unfortunately Dark Souls 3 has this game beat in terms of difficulty after that last DLC.

The Demon, Gearfried, and Midas were all harder than anything bloodborne had to offer.

And in my first time in Dark souls history I had to summon for Gearfried, Midir, and Nameless King. They were just too fucking hard (for my ds3 faith build).
>>
>>378078447
is this a joke?

das 3 is the easiest souls game, nothing in any of its contents comes close to ludwig or laurence
>>
>>378075873
same here fuck laurence forever
maria, ludwig, and orphan were great bosses
>>
>try fighting OoK once
>run out of blood vials
>never play the game again
guess that's that
>>
If the humanoid bosses are too hard, start using guns and viscerals. I levelled my tinge to 25 and use ludwigs rifle and that shit made awful bosses like the chalice Pthumerian descendent a joke
>>
Bloodbros, why is this game easily so much better than all other Souls series games, rivalling Das 1?
>no PVP cancer
>great end game content with the chalice dungeons
>bosses are frightening, original, tough but fair and satisfying to beat
>doll Maria >>>>> all other Das girls
This game really is a 9/10 easily with the dlc. And to think I shitposted about this game being overrated back when the game launched and I didnt have a PS4
>>
>>378078681
Or some say Kosm
>>
>>378074953

>>378079215

There's literally nothing wrong with PVP. PVP is what made Dark souls amazing
>>
Ludwig is 1000x the nigger that OoK is
>>
>>378078560

More along the lines of me being biased on my play throughs.

I forget that people with melee builds (the 99% who played the game) think Laurence is the hardest shit on the planet.

Ludwig I think could be defined as the hardest boss in the series though, unless he can be cheesed. As I forgot Nameless King, Demons, Gearfried and Midir could be cheesed with ranged/magic.
>>
>>378076553
the answer is no, unless you specifically wanna gimp yourself in ng+ for whatever reason
>>
>>378073190

Living failures is such a shit and unengaging boss that you just try to brute force it.
>>
>>378072329
I didn't expect to actually feel anything for him. But jesus christ you can hear the sorrow in his screaming.
>>
>>378080274
Living failures was a good boss thematically though.

Though mechanically the boss was pretty bad and random.
>>
I bought it on Ng++ and i cant get past maria, im getting my shit kicked in
>>

>>
>>378078165

>>
>>378080281
You are exaggerating a bit by saying "easiest games in the history of gaming".

Bloodborne is a pretty hard game. If you are experienced with games it won't be, but it still will be an amazing atmospheric game and an absolute masterpiece.
>>
>>378073190

>>
>>378077627
It's ok anon, not everyone likes the same shit. Might as well drop it now

Some areas are less dark than others but the same basic gameplay is the same

You definitely won't like the Chalice Dungeons, which are a huge part of the post-game content
>>
I've 100% every souls game but every time I play Bloodborne I progress a bit then just feel like stopping even though I'm enjoying it.

I feel like I'm just burnt out but it's been a year of this now, has anyone else had burn out from a type of game go on for literal this long?

Other than maybe MMOs I've never felt like this with a game I'm enjoying before. Also because of it I keep trying to brute force areas and that's not helping.
>>
>>378080946

Yeah this happens to everybody. Playing a game for hundreds of hours and getting bored of it?

Sounds like a foreign concept to me.
>>
>>378071748
Its not if you actually level up and play it when you're supposed to, which is near end game. Its hard yes but the only fucker who actually made me sweat cause he killed me so much was OoK
>>
>>378072178

>>
>>378072579

>>
>>378080946
That's normal

I had this happen to FPS games, now it's RTS, just take a break and it'll come back, you won't miss anything if you play a single player game later on
>>
>>378081323
>>378072579

So nobody liked the arena look with the lumenflowers, the weird ass looking bosses and the MARS soundtrack?

>>
>>378080946

If you're bruteforcing the need to go get more blood vials probably adds to the tedium in a major way.

Blood vials were a mistake.
>>
>>378075873
How the fuck was Laurence hard for anyone? He's literally fire cleric beast, yeah he gains more range when he loses his legs but parrying behind him AFTER he spills lava helps. I beat him my first try. Ludwig's insane ass however, over here Getsuga Tensho'n a nigga to death.
>>

you're completely right if you omit "dueling" from that statement

Gehrman and Orphan fight nothing alike.

Orphan is easy to hit, retaliates quickly & relentlessly, and has a ton of health.
Gehrman is hard to hit, strikes first & backs off, and doesn't have much health.
>>
>>378072123
It's 'okay' at lvl 70 and the end game gems (not chalice) on ng.

For NG+ lvl 125 and 50 vit, it will still be challenging even with chalice gems. The health boost is insane.
>>
>>378077627
Change your playing style. The game does not stay fun when you play safe.

Once you just decide to charge in and ignore your stamina meter, take risks and reap the rewards, its very fun. Also fun in souls games is always relative to your level. Over leveling can ruin the fun, underleveling as well, and thirdly the feeling that if you level up you might spoil the game for yourself, is always there, which hampers the experience. The third criticism is a flaw in the souls gameplay system itself.
>>

>>
>>378086747
Arcane could be more fun since you'll need to do both in NG+ basically, and with arcane you'll not only have the tentacles, but also a bunch of great arcane tools to mess around with

With beast claws you will be playing a high risk high reward game. The damage will be great, but you'll also likely be two-shot by a lot of things in NG+ if you get the beast meter high enough

Before I got the game, I heard people on /v/ say that one of the major cons of BB is that it has some of the worst PVP in the Soulsborne series.

Why makes people think this?
>>
>>378088732
You have to go down to the depth 5 root chalice dungeons to get some of the best gems for your weapons.
>>
>>378071748
You're (probably) underleveled
>>
>>378088732
PVP is bad because gems exist and let you literally 2 shot anyone with anything so fights are over way to quickly.

Bloodgems should never ever have had straight up attack increase. They should've ONLY been passive augments, like stamina use down, healing up, rally up, counter attack up. Only things like Charge attacks up should've been possible to get more straight up damage out of a weapon.

50 STR saw cleaver with gems is like 800AR after paper buff and it's faster than das1 falchion. It's fucking stupid.

It's why pvp was actually best when the game first came out because no one was korean yet.
>>
>>378088638
But if you min/max right BLT and ARC will let you literally oneshot everything
>>
>>378088843
What Chalice is the best for gems? Im currently just doing cursed Pthumeru with FRC offerings. Should I try loran or Isz?

>I heard people on /v/ say that one of the major cons of BB is that it has some of the worst PVP in the Soulsborne series.
I've PVPd in every game and none of them come close to Bloodborne's fast PVP

You're going to need chalice gems to stand a chance against the more advanced players but once you get gems that put you close to the range of the most powerful ones (like the from the screaming meemees in the Nightmare) - you're pretty much on equal footing (which does depend on how actually good you are at the game).
Since everyone has the same 14 or so weapons, you can take multiple hits without healing due to rallying and you don't even need to put yourself in harms way to parry its a blast.
Except for Kos Parasite users, fuck them
>>
>>378088843
>>378089170

you don't have to have those gems to compete if you're good at spacing and reading your enemy. You can easily get by with brain-doll gems from the story mode - the difference between those gems and FRC gems is the difference between killing in 2-4 hits and killing in 3-5.

Lots of more casual players do random pvp and have shitty gems. They just don't do "duels" and use blood vials when they're hurt, to make up for all the huge damage they take from their opponent's gemmed up weapons.

Also you kind of *need* gems in order to have a chance at fighting back against gank squads. PvP is not all just about duels. I love the sense of desperation you feel when it's a "dirty" fight featuring high damage gems, blood vials and cautious gankers

If you've ever taken a look at the gem slots on your weapons, there are three basic shapes to them. The radial, triangle, and waning. All pthumeru give radial, while loran give waning and isz give triangle. Of course, there is a chance to get a different shape on a specific dungeon ie triangle in a pthumeru dungeon.

Pic related, red and yellow are both radial and green is waning.

It was fucking brutal

I can say though without a doubt in my mind that Ludwig and Orphan are the two best bosses in the entire series and pretty much nothing except Gwyn no parrying allowed even comes close.

People who don't actually PVP in Bloodborne. I've had so much fun with fight clubs in /bbg/ and invading people all over. If you twink you can hit anywhere from Cathedral Ward to the end game, and there are more ways to handle ganks and blood vial spammers than there are in DaS3.

The invasion system is clunkier than the other games which, combined with the lower amount of builds and weapons, makes people act like PVP is bad.

Honestly I would say Bloodtinge with minimal skill (or 25 if you really want to push it), since it lets you use the Chikage and the Bowblade. If you go pure skill with minimal bloodtinge, it doesn't really help you out that much since your range options will be pretty half assed.

I'm more of a Strength/Bloodtinge person myself
>>
>>378093119
Don't do a hybrid bloodtinge. Chikage either scales with skill OR bloodtinge, depending on the form it's currently in. Never both. Same goes for bow blade and bloodletter (with regards to blt/str)

Honestly, BLT hybrid builds are the stupidest you can do. Do ARC/STR or something if you want to do 2 stats.

What gets people's jimmies rustled is that to properly invade the host needs to activate a summoning item that automatically brings ally phantoms into the world, whilst also summoning a NPC that can summon red phantoms

While it eliminates the constant fear of, "Oh man oh jeez I hope some Vileblood doesn't come out of nowhere and fuck my ass" once you kill the enemy NPC, but if that's not the case then you have a similar problem that you had in DS3
>GEE HOST HOW COME FROM LETS BRING FRIENDS?
>3v1 REEEEEEE I WANT TO GANK
So that's another layer of butthurt

Of course that's only for Vilebloods, Hoonter of Hoonters is a whole different story and has the potential to create some hilarious moments of betrayal that Grape phantoms could only dream off.

Are you retarded? Neither option you suggest is possible at the same time. With the Bloodletter, you'd have to untrick/trick to alter playstyles to employ strength, which drains health. With the chikage, you can't parry while tricked and the most viable option with that weapon is unzipping.

Do 40/40 and you'll get destroyed by a pure 50 BLT with the remaining stats invested elsewhere. Not to mention you can't use BLT gems effectively without making SKL/STR irrelevant entirely on the weapon, losing on on further damage.

Scrub.

BLT/STR is only a thing for stupid people and having to attempt to land an attack just to transform so that you can play slightly differently (and deal less damage than someone who isn't a hybrid) is completely moronic.

SKL/STR? Sure. Weapons scale off of both, you'll deal more damage than someone with just STR or just SKL. STR/ARC? Same thing. But BLT hybrid builds are the dumbest thing people in this game do and it's baffling.

Did you know you can use the backstep -> R1 attack of Ludwig's Holy Blade like a shield (when two-handed)? It reduces damage taken by like 95% and just makes you lose a bunch of stamina instead.

You can do it as well with the 2H Kirkhammer, by pressing backstep -> R1 and also by sprinting and pressing R1

Anon, you need to calm down. The church cannon's benefit over the evelyn is because all of that damage is dealt out at once in a wide radius. Its fantastic for crowd control and for larger beast bosses.

Every reply I make with regards to BLT hybrids puts forward an argument as to why they're inferior. Be it scaling, the need to untrick with the bloodletter, inability to make use of the most powerful gems. You have offered no rebuttal other than "but church cannon!"

And I didn't say the evelyn, I said bow blade, which is vastly superior for PvE and as for crowd control, the bloodletter literally has an attack that deals damage to multiple enemies in a radius.

And if you have 40/40 and 40 vit, I imagine your "build" is too overleveled to actually even be considered a build at all. Post a screenshot of it if you would.

>Amy Arm + Gatling Gun
Again, vastly inferior damage to just using the bloodletter or chikage. Even more retarded than your argument for the church cannon, so it's a very poor rebuttal, especially when it can't refute the primary drawbacks of attempting to use both BLT and STR in a fight, as I've listed (gem usage, no dual scaling etc..). Gimping yourself for the sake of using a few different weapons.

I didn't look over the drawbacks, if you want to be effective with the bloodletter, frenzy resistance is important and much easier to manage than an attempt to regen health by tricking the bloodletter. Simply pointing out that it's much more effective at crowd control while also not using any bullets.
As for your build:
>10 endurance
Can barely even use anything requiring strength anyway, swing bloodletter or amy arm twice maybe? Lol.
>14 skl
Literally fucking up your build so much you missed the opportunity for 15 to use the bow blade. 1 of only 3 useful bloodtinge weapons in the game.

>>
>>378098017
>Again, vastly inferior damage to just using the bloodletter or chikage.
I don't think you get the Amy Arm + Gatling Gun pairing. Its not about the raw damage, its about positioning and range.

I'm not really feeling the Bowblade on this character. Besides I could always just level more if the need ever struck me.

It's clear at this point you'll jump though any hoops you can to justify the time spent on your build, regardless of how stupid it is.

but what if the sequel is good? That's out of the question right? Maybe FROM wants to prove that they can do a good job on a sequel.

Besides, this is the first time they're making one that doesn't involve Bamco's meddling

Mensis is the usual place for PvP, ranges from about 100-125 or so. Nightmare frontier sometimes too, same level, but you can also get PvP there around the lvl 80 mark.

As for strength weapons, with +65 scaling gems, practically everything can be a strength weapon.

Ringed City bosses were more difficult, but it was artificial difficulty at best with massive hitboxes, hyper aggression and speed.

Ringed City/AoA were also designed well above the accepted pvp meta. I went through it at 100 and it was a total slog, a chore, pain in the ass, but I've read about people lv 150+ crying about how they were underleveled.

The Old Hunters dlc is easily doable around the level you should be at around the end of the game, and while difficult, it never felt unfair.

Bullshit
Just today I was fighting the Old Demon King and got him down at the point where he does his huge AoE but I couldn't run away even though I knew it was coming because I was stuck inside his mace
Oh an the entirety of DaS2 bosses had fucked up hitboxes
>>
>>378102403
unless the game was actually bugged out and your model was literally stuck in the mace, that's your mistake. The Demon King waits AGES before that attack goes off, and you should know better than to try to attack him before he does it
>>
Hunter step is superior than rolling mechanic.
>>
>>378102403
You do know that attack has a long build up right? Unless you were actually stuck and couldnt move at all, instead of just being snagged on something or rolling into a corner, then that death is your fault. Dying to Logarius taught me to stay the fuck away from him whenever he starts generating an aura
>>
>>378102715
you mean easier
>>
>>378088732
As someone who has played alot of it and joined fight clubs, it's because of easy dodging, low HP pools you can't get around and ranged parries that don't really have a downside.

Because of ranged parries and dodging and recovery times everyone is encouraged to use the fastest attacks possible. So duels are mostly dash attacks.

The reduced HP pools and people insisting on using high level gems means there's not as much 'learning' or adapting going on in fights because you take a few hits and you are essentially dead.

This is not even getting into extremely broken hitboxes on some weapons, gun builds combined with bone marrow ash and connection issues.
>>
>>378102831
You kidding? You can just panic-spam rolls in DS3 and avoid massive flurries of enemy attacks without even knowing wtf is going on. If you panic dodge in BB, you will usually get smashed by counter damage, like this guy >>378087084

And rolls / dashes give the exact same amount of iframes in bloodborne. They are functionally identical in terms of evasion, they just look different
>>
All I've done is a dexfag and a bloodtinge build in this game

What should I roll next?

>>
>>378103372
Comparing Ds3 rolls to BB sidesteps is moronic, and the second half of your post explains why.
the fact that they have the same i-frames means they are exactly the same. I'm talking about the rolls of Ds1 and 2, where rolling is something you commit to and takes significant stamina. If you think panic rolling is viable in BB but not in Ds3, then you just think the enemy attack patterns are better designed in BB because as you said yourself, they have the same i-frames.
>>

>>378104505
>the enemy attack patterns are better designed in BB
Exactly. They are so much better designed, in fact, that BB is still considered to be at least as difficult as any of the Dark Souls games (if not more difficult) - even with rolls/dodges taking a much smaller amount of stamina. And the commitment you are making (in any of the games) is not so much about the stamina you use up, but the risk of you are taking of getting hit with heavy counter damage if you time it wrong.

DS3 has BB style attack patterns but tries to mix it with the slower DS style combat, and so they made rolling easier to compensate

Mfw the hardest boss in the game is the guy before the screaming fire goat boss
>>
No, you dumb fucking faggot. You are the autistic one, you are a slave to morality imposed on you by others, you are nothing but a slave.

A hunter must hunt, it doesn't matter if it is for food, land or fun. If I want an elephant tusk, I will hunt and kill, if I want a lions mane, I will hunt and kill, there is not morality, but the morality of nature, the morality of the hunter and the prey.

Humans who are weak shouldn't play as hunter, it only shows their weakness and wannabe nature, a hunter is born a hunter, you need to have the killer instinct.

The hunter, is closer to reality and his beastly nature than any so called intellectually ascended philosopher or learned one, consciousness is extremely overrated, the reptilian brain and the instinct are stronger, faster, superior, an ascended man is an barbarian man, a beast, the conscious intellect should be the slave of this mind, creating tools and weapons to empower, not to pacify. Death to your false idols, death to your weakness. Salutations be upon the hunters.

Defiled Amygdala is harder than both, as is shiteater Midir.

As for who's harder between Orphan of Kosm and Gael, I'd say Gael, due to him being a damage sponge with his never ending string of ridiculous looping attacks. OoK was the better fight though by far.
>>
>>378106187
Defiled amygdala was one of the easiest chalice bosses, if you learn all his attacks he's probably the easiest boss to avoid any damage from. Lower loran darkbeast and pthumerian descendant both come to mind as harder.
>>
>>378106535
If you learn all of any bosses attacks they're the easiest to avoid any damage from.

If you're not cheesing defiled Amygdala by whacking her tail/legs for 10 minutes, then it is the hardest boss in the game.
>>
>>378071748
Let's be honest here
Ringed city was far harder than anything in the old hunters, and also had better boss fights
And I love bloodborne more
>>
>>378106535
>descendant
>hard
Literally how
You can parry half of his attacks
>>
>>378106831
No, plenty of bosses have more unpredictable movesets and flail around more. If you stay in front of his face and coax out his slams he is ridiculously easy.
>>
>>378107263
He's down for about a picosecond when parried and follows it up with a slash so its barely useful. Alongside having such bizarre moves and signalling that parrying is hard. His clipping boomerang is also a nightmare. Think i beat him by spamming gloves.
>>
>>378107561
>clipping boomerang
Just don't hide behind columns
It never helps in the borne anyway
>He's down for about a picosecond when parried

>>
>>378105016

>>
>>378105016
Headless bloodletting beast hard
>>
>>378080281
>mom i posted it again
>>
>>378107456
it's not easy to dodge his stupid energy-ball palm-slam

people consider defiled Amy difficult because if you fuck up in the slightest bit, you die. That and because it has a massive health pool with a weak spot (it's head) that is 15 feet in the air
>>
>>378109107
>a weak spot (it's head) that is 15 feet in the air
His hands are on the ground
Yes, his hands are his weak spot too:3
>>
>>378109220
not weak, just normal
the head takes far more damage when you hit it than the arms do
>>
>>378109107
You just have to stay far back from the black holes and dodge quickly in. Yes you'll get caught a few times but it's not that hard. His arm rip off range is literally the only real obstacle on defiled amygdala, but at that point just sit back and use arcane or a cannon on his head.

Do enemies hard lock on to you?

I didn't really like that in Dark Souls 2.
>>
>>378109767
its stupid how much damage a call beyond does for you, I was using it on Eberitas and it was knocking off atleast 1000+ points of health.
>>
>>378109826
No, but delayed swings with them turning 180 around are really annoying
>>
>>378106831

Amy does give you time to whack the head and back off before the last attack. Getting creedy there will kill you, but the attacks are easier to memorize than most hard bosses have. Same goes for the hotdog.
>>
I'm tempted to do a 3rd playthrough. Is there any reason to not use the knowledge items as soon as you get them? I just stacked them in my first 2 playthroughs.
>>
>>378109826
>>378109997
what? They definitely do lock on to you, just like how you lock on to them. While you are doing a windup for a move against a locked-on target, you stand still. You don't turn to face them until you actually start swinging (and you turn very fast). It's the same deal with enemies
>>
>>378109954
that's not that much damage. You can do like 1200 damage to her with two quick R1 swings using a tonitrus
