Definitely not for everyone. I just like it because it reminds me of a spaghetti western, but it's easy as fuck to see the flaws everywhere, but that didn't stop me from beating it 4 times in a week.

If you still want fallout but prefer a bit more strategy try fallout 2. Mindless desert exploration is gone because you just map travel to important locations and the characters are more interesting. I recommend you take your time to do side quest and read up a strategy guide to build your character for your first time though.

I like it, but I don't see how its that much better than Skyrim. I'm an outsider, so I'm not loyal to either Fallout nor TES, and I played both to gain an objective opinion.

NV has great writing, pacing, sense of discovery, weapons and possibly one of the top 5 RPG systems in gaming, but its bogged down by a lack of dynamics, the quest luster wears off once you realize its just "talk to X and kill Y then come back to X", the non-quest related NPC scripts are hot shitty boo boo, and there isn't all that much to do in the towns.

You all know the laundry list of flaws Skyrim had, but the factions were fun to join, the Daedric quests were cool, there was a constant atmosphere while traveling that you could encounter some dubious shit, the Conjuring skills were implemented well and some of the collectibles were cool as fuck.

Overall I enjoyed them both for different reasons but I don't get why NV is one of /v/s top 5 but Skyrim is a pile of shit.

I started playing it in 2016 (Still playing in 2017) and I can agree to some extent.

I mean /v/ makes it out like the second coming of christ but it suffers from a lot of problems FO3 has, the thing is that New Vegas has better story, RPG system, combat and characters, but both have

Pretty much any RPG I could think of has problems with balancing character progression against the possibility of gamebreaking builds, especially with variable skill systems like NV

Iron sights and DT/DR demarcation alone are a huge improvement to gameplay, and it was never going to have the gunplay of even, say, STALKER.

I'm not sure what you mean - if you mean that they're simply underpowered with no reason to take them, I'd counter 'role-playing'. If you mean that they're not implemented enough to be truly representative of what they're supposed to (Charisma, to use your example), again, that's a problem with most RPGs - especially those that try and implement them with more complexity (like Arcanum).

Look, I understand your point, I just think it was overly harsh to dismiss NV's mechanics as 'lackluster or trash'. There were a good variety of mechanics that were on the whole well-implemented.
