Some of the character designs from this game is still salvageable. Oh, and the character ultimate & their 3 ability too. Most of them. They're very creative and feel like new attack and not simple upgrade to the LMB basic attack, or new defense ways with their own animations and all those kinds of thing. More creative than Orisa i have to say which just recycled existing character assets which was pretty disappointing in OW.
I love creative character with High skill ceilings, where if you watch a noob plays it will simply not be like a pro playing it and where the difference is very visible and battleborn, this shitty game, happens to have some high skill character that have some cool ability.

Fuck, blizzard should ripoff character and call it their own by changing them into sci fi version, Orandi could be a little crazy girl with robotic arms for example.
Also enhanced design because when i'm saying that some of the character design of battleborn is good it's in a scale of "Shit" to "Absolutely garbage". Some happens to be shit but the majority is absolutely garbage.

Also it's funny how Randy really thought he could make the next big thing by putting everything into it, like Card Collection & Shitty statue.

I enjoy Battleborn's gameplay. Though I wish they had given it a better story. As it is now, it's just a series of unrelated missions that end in killing Rendain. Who's never given proper motivations for doing what he's doing. The majority of the characters have no bearing on the story and the only way to get any backstory on them is to play them a ton to complete the lore challenges for them.

The multiplayers modes are very unbalanced and are just a contest to see who can snowball first. There are moments where it gets really fun, but those are rare.

The game had potential to be really good, but being immediately overshadowed by Overwatch completely killed any chance of there being a significant playerbase, which in turn made the devs lose interest in supporting it beyond what the contracts said they had to.

the missions actually have an order where you get some of the heroes and other stuff to finally be able to kill rendain and prevent the last veiling. the dlc stuff gives more backstory and fleshes some heroes out more (quite good actually, not that /v/ would ever admit it)

To be honest, Overwatch really wasn't the biggest factor in Battleborn's failure. Sure, trying to tweet at a company with that much marketing prowess was a terrible idea, and Blizzard holding a free OW weekend during Battleborn's launch certainly didn't help. But it was ultimately Gearbox who did themselves in-by shipping the PC version with serious performance issues, letting those issues stick around for a full month because they wanted PC and console to share update schedules, trying to make up for it with a huge sale that just made the people who paid full price feel like jackasses, and then pushing microtransactions instead actual content.

Add that to things like their initial insistence on using a "grind-to-unlock" model for their characters, some hilarious balancing for characters and gear alike, and again, the distressingly long dearth of actual content, and it's easy to see why it sank.

Yes, the industry needs Gearbox and people like Anthony Burch and Randy Pitchford. Unlike other companies who only want to earn profit through the sexualization of women, Gearbox pushes and prioritizes gender, race, and sexual orientation diversity in their games, which makes them a force for good.
Some people say it was "wrong" that Gearbox apparently "stole" money from Sega, but I say that there is nothing wrong with that. Like the great feminist intellectual Bob Chipman once said, "There are no bad methods, only bad targets". Sega is a sexist, misogynistic, Japanese company that makes sexualized filth such as Bayonetta, Virtua Fighter, Yakuza, Space Channel 5, and Golden Axe which exploits and demeans women. So yes, it is good that money was taken from this bad company and put into the making of the brave and progressive work, Borderlands 2.

Before the release? Picked a fight with Blizzard, despite the fact their games have fuckall to do with each other. Blizzard markets Overwatch with the relentless fury of a thousand suns, Gearbox can't match that, Blizzard takes the lead before the games are even out.

During the release? Blizzard's doing great with their beta, announces a free weekend during Battleborn's launch. PC version of said launch barely runs, even on top-notch machines. Gearbox insists they have to update PC and consoles at the same time, so PC version doesn't get fixed for a month.

After the release? Gearbox knows they fucked up their first month, try and have a huge sale to make up for it. All it does is piss off people who paid full price, or, God forbid, sprang for the season pass. They try and introduce cosmetics and microtransactions, all it does is piss people off for trying to bleed more money out of them, especially pass owners. Speaking of pass owners, they still have no new content; characters and story operations are down to a crawl while Gearbox is doing this shit.

If you're talking about PvP, it's a moba so killing somebody in a few seconds isn't really expected.
The upgrades were the best part of the game, since some were pretty dynamic and changed your playstyle.
Also the original characters that were made in Battleborn were to my suprise pretty good, only gameplay-wise.
The maps were decent along with the gamemodes, at least Incursion, Meltdown, and Face-Off.
Capture was shit.

EA's statement was stating that it was not shaping up as they hoped. They wanted to compete with League and essentially be a direct rival (like DotA is)
Unfortunately this was not realistic.

However, the Dev had some other words to share for me.
Essentially from the start EA was not a fan of the F2P idea. Microtransactions yes but base game F2P no. Instead of just saying "no, find a different publisher" they allowed them in to use their stuff like engine webkit and more (most of it, the engine is a modified darkspore engine) to create the game, and if it fails they still own it while Waystone would not.

So this went along okay for a while, and if you had noticed there was virtually no shilling of the game what so ever. This is very unusual for EA. This essentially made the game cucked to death due to no help from the publisher to gain traction. It had to rely on word of mouth and luck.

So come later on, they were told they're cutting things off due to lack of success (which is solely attributed to lack of shilling).

Devs left, some stayed, some moved to mobile division, some to riot, some to many other things, some even grouped up to make more games as a new company

That might work. Right now, Battleborn has pretty much no media presence left at all-any F2P announcement might go unnoticed. But if they tack it on to a Borderlands 3 announcement at a high-profile venue, they might actually get some interest. Not a lot, probably, but at this point, the only way to go is up.

Fun game. Frustrating dialogue. Playing without a full premade is cancer (as is any online team game), and I was the last one to bail out of my friends. Awful gear system. Terrible single-player. Every game mode except Meltdown was fucking awful. Game ran like shit no matter what.

This is all you need to know about Battleborn. Try it when it goes free to play, but do not give Randy your money. I gave him enough.

I actually enjoyed playing most of the characters. The Meltdown game mode (guide your minions past the enemies' into a wall - sort of DotA-like if anything) felt pretty balanced, and was open enough to variation. Didn't feel like I was doing the same damn thing every round.

The worst part by far was having to play the single-player/co-op content to get "Legendary" gear for multiplayer versus. Those maps were fucking boring and easy, and the Legendary gears only dropped a percent of the time on specific bosses. This gear is gear you could really put to good use, and had no business being locked behind such stupid fucking gameplay.
