Well then I guess the only solutions are to either be faster than them (you only need a double after all), or set up a perfect clear yourself. Otherwise just hope the RNG screws them and they can't make a perfect clear, but that would be entirely out of your hands.

Another thought that occurs to me is that, in swap mode, they're holding out to make the perfect clear pop after the boards swap. That means they're not going to be doing anything except the perfect clear setup for the first 20 seconds or however long it is until the first swap. That time could be used on your side to fire off T-spins and stuff to at least lessen the damage that a perfect clear will do to your Puyo board and make it more survivable (since part of the perfect clear garbage would then be used to offset the garbage that you've been trying to send). All the perfect clear player has to do is take the hit on the Puyo board from the T-spin damage to make you take the full brunt of his own perfect clear attack without any of it nullified, which is probably more devastating than the T-spin damage you manage to muster in that amount of time at the start.

The only time nullifying it would help, if he has enough pieces for a perfect clear, is if he's forced to do it in the last second with an S/Z piece instead of letting it drop like with most other pieces.

I never made any serious attempt before yesterday to try and learn to puyo. I'm here now because I got a few lucky chains that I didn't even see and I can't keep up. Is there a tool that'll just give you random puyos but wait for you to place them instead of dropping them, so I can practice making chains? I learned triples recently, it helps to learn a specific order of blocks to make one first, then gradually start making variations on it.
The easiest one is placing O, then Z, then J on the far left, and I, I, O four spaces right of that (or mirrored, obviously), but that only gets you two t-spin triples before you have to start clearing things normally.

Finished the adventure mode of Puyo Puyo Tetris today. I'm not very good at Puyo Puyo but I endured. The final battle in act 10 was very intense and it took me several tries. But in the end I managed to win with a 3 star rating
