If I had to choose, it would honestly be seeing and exploring the Temple of Time for the first time. I loved a lot of other moments but there was something sad but special entering its ruins. Also its a really beautiful set piece.

i just replayed the section before this and found a weird difference than my first playthrough.

on my first playthrough it wasn't just rain but thunderstorming the entire time resulting in quite the challenge as i was new to the game and quickly ran out of weapons to use. (wiiu version too)

on the switch when i replayed it 2 1/2 months post release it rained the whole time but only one or two small areas had thunder resulting in a significantly easier time though some of that could be from having enough game experience to handle enemies better.

I think the moment that sealed it for me was getting up to the Goron village, gliding over the lava and ending up next to a minecart. I thought that I must have missed an NPC that tells you how minecarts work until it dawned on me that I needed to use the tools I already had. That was an incredible moment for me, and it's where I realised just how rewarding the game was.

But something odd happened, I shot the flame pillar behind two water sprinklers and during the cutscene where it shows that a pillar on an elevator flame it shot the rest of my arrows and it hit that pillar as well.

Flying off of the Great Plateau and landing on the ground.

Pretty much everything I did before going to Kakariko.

Highlights include Faron Woods, killing the Black Hinox in the Giant's Woods, infiltrating Gerudo Village and beating Thunferblight Ganon with ZERO direction from Impa at that point.

Then finally, storming Hyrule castle with max health, max armor, and kick-ass weapons.

Pro tip: Different people have different tastes. BotW, like every other Zelda, has major issues that could easily be a dealbreaker for some people. The only "issues" BotW has are incredibly small things like the menu bloat as you accumulate items. Everything else is a design decision that some people are throwing massive tantrums at.

Something being a deliberate design decision does not automatically make it a good idea. In fact, most things you hate about your least favorite game were probably put there on purpose.

For example, Fi telling you that your batteries are running low was a deliberate design decision because the motion plus loses accuracy if the batteries get too low, that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be annoyed by its inclusion.

Honestly, my favourite moment was first getting off the plateau.

I decided I would follow the old man's advice and head towards the twin peaks. I actually thought those peaks would mark the edge of the world, I had no idea there was so much to explore beyond them. Making my way along the dirt track to the mountains hit me with a wave of excitement, knowing that I could literally go anywhere I wanted, climb anything I wanted. The scope of the world and the sense of freedom was truly magical in that moment.

BotW isn't perfect. Nothing ever is. And much of it's nitpicks are symptomatic of the open world genre. But they never come close to overshadowing what it an incredible achievement in game design.
