The Deathwatch are not a chapter because Chapters have to either follow the rules given by the High lords of Terra on Chapters, OR they need to be big enough to tell the High Lords to fuck off like the Black Templars or Space Wolves.

The Deathwatch are not as Old as many chapters, and was founded Unofficially as Space Marine Chapters Collaborated their efforts and Knowledge against Xenos, specifically, against Genestealers.

There was no formal ranking and no ritualized darkened of the Power Armour until the Ordos Xenos funded this new Union and took them as the Chamber Militant of their Ordo.

THEN the Ordos Xenos started funding the Deathwatch Development of new technology. Officially, the Ordos Xenos own everything the Deathwatch does. And Officially, every Deathwatch member acts with the Official power of the Ordos Xenos, HENCE why they wear the Ordos Xenos Imperial Sigil on their silver plated pauldron.

The Deathwatch has no Official structure and answers to nobody but the Ordos Xenos, using a Loophole that forbids Space Marines from Forming Extra-Chapter Faterneities by hiding it within the Inquisition, who has full mandate to supersede all other High Lords of Terra.

If a Space marine dies in the Deathwatch, his Body is transfered to the Chapter and recorded under the chapter. If a Blackshield dies, he is never recorded in Imperial records, Ever.

Completely wrong. They came about (quite spontaneously) during the Imperiums war against The Beast, after a failed invasion of Ullanor. There was a need to force many Space Marines to work together because all the Chapters on hand were understrength at the time.

The ritualized darkening of the power armor was one of the first things that led to the creation of the Deathwatch, as many marines did so without consulting each other, and realized the (almost mystical) significance of the act.
