Not really, unless you REALLY love a mix of fantasy and sci-fi, the characters are also mostly "realistic" cardboard cutouts with their own motivations and ambitions, but pretty much zero charisma. What really makes this game good is the roleplaying - the ability to complete various quests based on your character building choices. Fuck, your initial class selection gives you a pretty much unique start and main questline.
Get this game if you like roleplaying and general Choices&Consequences. Do NOT get this game if all you care about is story and well written characters.

You mean RPGs with good story and characters? Have you played Planescape: Torment, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, New Vegas Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer expansion?? If no, play them. If you want something more recent, try Shadowrun: Hong Kong and Dragonfall or the two Blackguards games, if you want character centric jRPG-like WRPGs.

I wasn't too impressed with Shadowrun but I'll check out Blackguards

The latter two Shadowruns are much better than the original while Blackguards are almost exclusively about shitty combat with very low hit chances. You're better off with the classics listed.

The story is pretty great, and forgive me for saying this, but it's hard to appreciate until you've played it through at least 3 or 4 times. There's basically one story in the entire game, and you play through it from different perspectives depending on who you join and what you do.
Dialogue is pretty okay, nothing mind-blowing, but it holds up.
Combat is shit though, don't let anyone meme you about this. It's purposefully awkward and difficult, and unless you're playing a 100% combat-orientated encounter, you almost always need to avoid combat.

this is a good list, but blackguards is shit

>The story is pretty great
No, it's not. I've played the game from start to finish and both the story and cahracters are uninspired shit. Roleplaying and C&C are good, but that's about the only good things about this game.

Maybe I'm just easily impressed.
I'm also one of the 4 people on /v/ who didn't think Wasteland 2 was boring.

I loved Wasteland and I unironically think it was WAY better written than Age of Decadence.
AoD had none of the cool factions or humor Wasteland 2 had. In its attempt to be gritty and "realistic" with its character writing, devs have made them utterly bland and forgettable.
