I think it's a step in the right direction but had some minor flaws holding the game back that didn't make me hate the game, just be disappointing to see them almost have it perfect and mess up a bit with this, but overall it's aight, I'd rather play it over any of the other sequels

While it's better than everything else post-Starfox 64, that isn't much of a compliment. It fails severely on two levels, one gameplay, the other hardware.

The gameplay fuck-up is attempting to combine the fast-paced on-rails shooter gameplay genre with slower-paced platforming segments. This kills all positive aspects of the on-rails genre and severely reduces the replayability of the game which considering the content is not of a great quantity to begin with, is not a good idea.

The hardware fuck-up is the shoehorning in of the control system it uses with no alternative when anyone with more than 2 brain cells could think of better controls.

It deserves utter malice regarding the hardware control issue, the gameplay fuck-up could be seen as just a misguided attempt to freshen up the 64 formula a bit to try (keyword: TRY) to prevent accusations of straight rehashing. The control gimmick however straight-up showcases the developer's (or Nintendo's or maybe even both) obvious contempt for its audience.

I hope whoever does the next Starfox game learns from Zero. I seriously do.

It's pretty good, the asymmetric gameplay took a while to get used to but ultimately could've been done without.
Feels like it would've been better if they had more time to develop it. It lacked content, even for a Star Fox game, and the content that was there was mostly rehashes. They had things like the Roadmaster which were obviously intended to be used but only ended up being in training missions.

What everyone really wants is a true 64 successor. but that makes story telling difficult as
seen with command, the best of the whole branching paths. But what makes Wolf and crew
interesting is their relationship with Fox McCloud and Star Fox so telling a multi-ended
story would be messy.

Your Great Fox, crew, and arwings are all customizable as the great fox and arwings will need special protection for certain areas, your crew and their experience add bonuses such as boss meters, ability to shoot down on their own/avoid enemies and more.
Arwings start off with their differences like in command but through time they can be the same or have special maxed out perks.
Some planets will allow you to step out of the arwing/vehicles so crew experience will be a thing both in space and on foot.
You can find more crew members/armor/weapons etc by progressing the story or side questing

Just take the control scheme, everything is worse than using your wrists to aim. Barrel roll on the right stick, everything about the chicken controls, bomb is R or clicking right stick, shooting with the trigger. Tilt controls are better than using a stick to aim in a game like this.

Time for some HOT OPINIONS
Zero was bad but the controls were the least of the issues with it and the promo video was cool. Most of the issues came from the lack of content compared to even SNES Star Fox.
Slippy is the best member of the team and would be way more likeable if they'd give his VA the voice direction he had in his Brawl cameo instead of the stupidly girly, grating direction they give him in everthing else.
The series needs to expand in a direction other than just rail shooting in order to survive, because that genre just can't survive in a AAA game any more in the current market, and the best way to do this would be to improve upon that one VS on-foot mode from assault and make it actually interesting and fun as well as improving all-range mode a bit more.
None of the female characters introduced after Star Fox 2 were good. At all. Krystal was "FORCED ROMANCE TO INTERFERE WITH THE PLOT: THE CHARACTER" and Amanda was literally just Krystal but rather than actively fucking up the plot she just did absolutely nothing to contribute to it. Aside from that, the uniforms they keep giving the female SF members after 2 are terrible and stick out like a sore thumb, from a visual standpoint. Aside from just being "LOL LATEX" trash, they also don't match the "Green shirt, grey jacket, red scarf" motif that every other Star Fox member has. It's bad.

Miyu and Fey, in SF2 (despite it never officially being released) were fine and worked well enough in the context of the game. Are they canon? No. But in the context of the game they appeared in, they were fine. Krystal sticks out like a sore thumb in every game she's in, and Amanda is just as bad. That's my issue with them. I actually got it last week new from GAME for £10
I'd held out on buying it because I love SF and heard it was pretty crap.
The motion controls and second screen really ruined it because I love to play games in bed with my TV and juggling keeping track of the TV, gamepad screen, using motion controls and other shit made it feel like a chore.
I'll get through it but hopefully this isn't the end of Star Fox

I had this weird dream where Platinum made a Star Fox game.

...or rather, a character action game featuring Star Wolf. Star Fox has vanished and some alien force is trying to take over Lylat that disables G-Diffuser tech, so Wolf was paid handsomely to be a test operator for some power suit. He can change weapons/modes by inserting a toy-like Wolfen on his wrist.
