My first playthrough was with a 2h weapon wielding fighter and I think that's the best class to start with, since Eder is pretty meh.

Dual-dagger ciphers are pretty good, especially if you just build around dominate abilities, later on.

Cipher is ideal as a ranged character because of the fact you will be casting a lot of spells. Also the focus gain is tied to your weapon damage so you want to give your character a slow bow and traits to boost accuracy.

But then again unless you are playing on PotD you can pretty much do anything in the game.
