It's okay OP. Good platforming but it's is massively overrated as a metroid-like. The map is lackluster and the backtracking was poorly thought. The music and the plot felt forced on for me, but you may like "the feels ;_;" moments.

Pic related shows where it stands. Still haven't updated the list since Hollow Knight, but HK is superior.

5 minutes in, the mother "dies" and the game tries to pull a Lion King. Why should I care? I don't know this damn character. The only convincing thing in this damn scene was the music, but it was also trying damn hard to be emotional.

Hollow Knight is way too classic to surpass the pioneers. I'd put it in the great tier personally. It has a good map, good movesets, a good art direction, it is quite expansive. But it also lacks originality when it comes to level design.
A game like Rain World is a good example of how devs can build maps and innovating levels.
Most parts of HK felt either metroidish or castlevanish.

It's one hub zone that branches into like 3 path which themselves are not really connected (i.e. it's just one linear path broke into a few branches). Also there's no need to revisit older areas to get new abilitys only health and mana upgrades.
