Galaxy 1 has a far better hub world, and the advantage of introducing a novel environment to play in, but 2 has larger level variety, and if I'm not mistaken, more levels. I enjoyed them both pretty much equally though,

bumping with another one

The second has better level design but the first is presented so much better that I can't help but prefer it.
Only contrarians consider Galaxy 2 better. It's very fun but it's meant more as additional content for galaxy 1, and doesn't hold up as well when you isolate it. Galaxy 2 is just a level pack.

Ages ftw

Yeah, I consider it to be like a Part 1 and Part 2 situation of the same game. Not that this is a bad thing, both games deserve all the praise they get, but it's hard to think of one as objectively better than the other. If I had to nitpick, I'd say the story and more spacey feel of the first one are great, while the variety and mechanics of the second are more interesting.
fourth one
