His backstory is explained in Haru's Confidant. His father ran a coffee shop but was horrible at business, so much that money was an issue for him growing up. His father even gave away food and coffee even if people couldn't pay, he was a saint in the neighborhood.

When his father finally passed away he became obsessed with the idea of never returning to that kind of life again, that whole space level was a manifestation of that one retro toy set he couldn't get as a kid due to their financial problems. If Akechi wasn't a total faggot he'd still be around for me to remind him every day I'm fucking his daughter and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it. Fun space level, the shitters who run out of SP deserve deserve all the anal pain of mob encounters for not switching party members.

Man I just beat the game an hour and boy what a journey. I somehow managed to max my confidants on the first playthrough so the ending where everyone is cheering for you felt more genuine. I don't know how P6 is going to top 5 with all the crazy shit they pulled at the ending but here's hoping it comes soon.

To be fair, Haru really felt nothing for her father at that point due to what he had become and how he treated her. From the sounds of things, this had been going on for such a long time that she hardly even saw him as her father anymore since she never brings up any stories about "how he used to be so kind" or any of that shit. Haru would have liked to have her father confess his crimes but it wasn't for her own sake. Him no longer being in her life wasn't much of an adjustment for her because she didn't really harbor any love for him anymore.

Akihiko and Shinjiro were a much different case as still very clearly cared about each other.
