It was censored because Americans are all cultureless, sheltered fucks who can't handle any sort of opposite worldview without crying in outrage.
Yanks are truly the gift that NEVER stops giving, they're the funniest fucking country to watch fuck up and they consistently fuck up which is hilarious to watch.

I can understand removing a bit of cleavage (though to this extent would be being highly generous in said understanding), but even the hands and sheaves? The fact that's there's absolutely no skin showing below the neck just looks weird and off putting. The weirdest thing is that strangely, I can't think of another Nintendo game that had gone that crazy with censorship around or after #FE.

I mean sure, Xenoblade Chronicles X had no breast slider, but still had tons of revealing outfits. And Fatal Frame got rid of the sexy outfits but the nintendo costumes also left little to the imagination. It's like if they went Hyper-SWJ to #FE SPECIFICALLY.

I may be theorizing, but maybe it got super censored because NoA, like most Americans, do not understand the concept of idols in Japan, so everything around it feels sleezy and wrong. As such, even with the age up they didn't understand all the fanservice is common in Japan in the idol industry.

At least that's what i think cause, as I said, it feels like no other game reached this level of specific censorship.

The weird thing is that with Awakening, you had this yet Tharja continued to wear her super skimpy clothing in the game.

Meanwhile #FE went out of its way to censor pic related of >>377960526 to the point of even covering the ARMS. As well as change an entire dungeon and almost every piece of clothing in the game.

What was it about #FE SPECIALLY that triggered NoA so much, cause honesty they haven't gone that 4Kids in anything around or after that. At least to that magnitude.

I thought #FE localization wasn't done by Treehouse, but by one of Atlus's teams instead. My guess is they either had someone on the team who personally really hated fanservice or the team just went way overboard after their market research.
>>
>>377963829
That's exactly, and like the examples I said. They STILL mantained SOME of the lewd.

Yes, Potato-chan in Xenoblade X was covered and you couldn't change your boobs but you could still dress every other girl in a bunny bikini.

I like to think that, yes NoA loves to go overboard, there was something about #FE ITSELF that made them go bonkers. Because otherwise we would have seen way more games around that frame that was equally as censored and there isn't the case.
>>
>>377964043
Would the world be better if NoA just imploded in a self contained black hole?

>do not understand the concept of idols in Japan

You might be on to something (pic semi-related). Still, I firmly believe NoA simply hates Fire Emblem, its fans, and the female form with a seething fury.
>>
>>377964132
Maybe ATLUS thought Nintendo's laws on risky stuff were way tighter than they really were and they decided to safe-proof themselves way too much? "Let's make sure we don't leave ANYTHING that Nintendo could ask us about." or something like that because they had to use an IP that is not theirs?

Because the fact ATLUS localized it makes it even MORE strange than the usual case of NoA censoring.

When it comes to censorship #FE is truly a modern mystery I'd love to hear about from someone who worked on localization.
>>

Well there is that whole rumor/conspiracy theory that the localization group was simply changing anything and everything to get more money since then they could bill for more work done.

>>
>>377964828

It does not matter if it's treehouse or not. I was trying to say how bizzare NoA is because their censoring makes no sense.
>>
>>377957000
Not really, but I can accept it as long as it doesn't fuck up anything about the original intent or gameplay, and the change doesn't look like complete shit. Censorship is also a pretty broad term, and localization changes are far different from revisions.
For example: The animation in the OP was changes by NoA for the use of alcohol, which Nintendo tried to avoid showing in the SNES days. The animation is a simple victory animation, and they were both changed to fairly similar victory animations. Would have been better to not have a change at all, but the change didn't really do any harm.
On the flipside, Treehouse's localization of FE Fates didn't just remove a gameplay mechanic that wouldn't have really offended anyone (as it's not like anyone new to Japanese gaming is really going to be picking up a FE game of all things) but it also deleted several lines of character-building dialog and replaced them with strings of elipses instead of making any attempt to carry across the original intent. It's everything wrong with vidya censorship.

And then the third thing I mentioned, a revision change, is shown in >>377958563 which this motherfucker posts every time this subject comes up. It's a design change made in the remake in all regions to better reflect the current aesthetic of the series, with Dorry being changed to a design used for other dinosaur-related characters in Mario games and the scuttlebug design being changed to the design used in NSMB for the NDS, which was the huge system selling Mario title at the time. No harm done to gameplay or original intent (as it IS the original intent of the remake), and it honestly looks far better anyways.

Interested, anyone have a change they actually like better.I dislike censorship but even I have to admit there are a few instances where I prefer the change made. Drunken mercenaries are a pretty common cliche but having a character who doesn't like to speak due to his lisp is honestly original and clever.

In Breath of Fire IV one character you have a character named Scias. Scias is pretty quiet and typically only speaks when spoken to. In the Japanese he has a broken pattern of speaking as a joke to show that he constantly id drunk. In the US release this was changed in that now he rarely speaks as he has a bad lisp when speaking. Honestly I hate changes but I genuinely love this one.

You've got it backwards. Super Mario 64 DS was a DS launch title, releasing nearly two years before the first New Super Mario Bros. game. People usually call it the "New Super Mario Bros. style", but the aesthetic was already being used in games like the 64 remake and Mario Kart DS. Nintendo probably just made the decision to make the designs more standardized when they started developing DS Mario games.

The octopuses are there because for some reason Itoi associates being lost with having your path blocked by an octopus, and the kokeshi dolls were there to set up the pun "Kokeshi Keshi" (keshi meaning eraser) for the item you get to remove them.

>Gratuitous sexualization of panties expecally on underage looking women is defiantly a Japanese thing that is impossible for most of the non Japanese gaming market to understand.

No reason to feign piety here, anon.

Fight the power. Study to understand panties.

Censorship is dumb but sperging out over minor stuff is dumb too. Whining about things being in games while also whining about censorship is top tier autism though.

They censored Ryuji's shoes in South Korea.

I like it, especially the handicapped elephant

If it's minor stuff then why do they need to censor it?

Earthbound had some really clever ones really, there is a reason the script is remembered to this day.

In the game upon defeating Master Barf in the Deep Darkness he will have a 100% chance to drop an interesting weapon. In the Japanese version the weapon is called the "Swing with all your might bat". However since that is obviously super long it was called the "Casey bat" as a reference to the poem "Casey as the Bat". This is brilliant since the weapon is immensely powerful but only has a 1/4 chance of hitting, perfectly referencing the poem.

I really feel it made the character more interesting and memorable.

The one on the right looks weird and stupid. The one on the left is a proper wedding dress. Does Japan not know what wedding dresses look like? Do they even have marriage in Japan?

PM2 had the best game localization, Vivian aside. The JP script is dry as hell.

>Yet main FE games have never been censored to the level #FE was.
FE10 had an entire script cut from the game.

Most wedding dresses show some skin and don't look like white hijabs senpai. The wings are pretty dumb but other than that it looks like a regular wedding dress

They censor their games because they try to market to everybody since they are a videogame company that makes videogames, something Sony doesn't do which defined your jaded mindset and non educated understanding on business. If Sony made as much videogames as Nintendo they would be doing the same thing if not now with their small videogame division when they try to market to SJWs

Did you somehow miss everything regarding Fates? The entire script is a complete mess of botched translations, removed petting minigame, removed bikinis for both men and women, and so on. It's absolutely idiotic.
