I can tolerate the gameplay and the classic RPG mods make it okay. Most people spend all their time trying to get 1000 mods to work and then play for 5 minutes and uninstall. It defeats the point.

Modding Skyrim used to be super easy.

Now? Not so much. Literally all of the good mods on the Nexus have been broken for a long time now and the people who made them won't reply to any attempt at communication.

Also, the general has discussed the actual games to death already. There isn't a single mechanic or lore tidbit that hasn't been meticulously dissected at least twice by now. It's not bad but it is shallow. Like... the RPG elements are pretty sparse (any body can do anything), and you don't really make any significant changes or impact on the world.
On the flips side it's a cozy game I through on when I want to be in a fantasy land and not try very hard. It's excellent for that sort of experience.

I don't think its bad, I just think its a mediocre game that managed to grab so much attention because most of the people who played it never tried something else like it (including other Elder Scrolls games), and it showed developers that they're able to make money off of doing less if they manage to appeal to a wider audience.
What really pisses me off more so are how people will defend the game's flaws with "but muh mods fix it!', or even worse "But it sold a lot!" Bunch of corporate cocksuckers.

I'd say it's more overrated than bad. It's a very average game, but many people considered it to be the second coming of Christ in RPG form. Instead, it's a relatively average game (at least in my view).

Daggerfall has a massive world, enormous dungeons and a lot of neat little things like banks, purchasable carts and ships.
Morrowind has its incredible setting a lot of little details that make the world truly immersive and the best Main quest.
Oblivion has the best faction and side-quests.
What does Skyrim have? It's definitely the best looking with NPCs that don't look like origami or have a potato for a face but outside of presentation, memes and a great trailer what will Skyrim be remembered for once TES VI comes out and surpasses it in terms of technical prowess?

Skyrim doesn't really fit how I play games well. I tend to be narrow minded, only do a few sidequests, but the meat of the game is in sidequests here, so it kinda conflicts me.

It's... Ok without mods.
But mods make the game a lot better. It would be a lot harder to enjoy the game if I didn't have mods to stop people from attacking me as a vampire or make people run inside when dragons/vampires attack instead of fighting them and dying.

It's not a great game, especially compared to Oblivion and/or Morrowind, though I don't remember much about those games. Could be my nostalgia thinking they were so much better. But Skyrim is fun, even more so when you add mods to the mix. Eventually, you get to the point where all you do is mod the game and make sure it runs perfectly smooth with no crashes. Then, once it does crash, you'll never be able to fix it. So you start again.
Now, I've made the "perfect" setup, and all I use it for is porn.

This is just my opinion, but here is the problem with Skyrim. People argue if or if its a good, great, amazing, garbage RPG. but they are missing the issue. It's not an RPG. oh its a game, it has role playing elements, but you don't role play. you play the dragon born. who can use any weapon spell and ability. gender and race is a minimal factor, because every play through results in a game with as much role playing as a zelda game.
