I hope they improve the whole town construction stuff a lot. It was decent in New Leaf, but it felt very restricting a lot of times.
I get that they don't want the player to accidentally make the town unplayable though.

The Animals have gotten boring, in the GC version they have tons of personality and quirks but they slowly have lost that over time.
New Leaf's Animals are boring, it is no fun to have one animals repeat three things over and over again before moving onto another Animal who says the same three things.

Crankies and Snooties got neutered, I really enjoyed them being utter cunts but slowly warming up to you after a while.
Now they are just boring.

Improved villager speech. I want to be able to go at least a couple months of day-to-day gameplay without seeing repeating dialog for than a few times.
Stop adding new villagers so that you can improve on the ones that're already there.
Give the player an option to be the mayor or not, rather than forcing it. It's not as fun not having Tortimer be mayor.
Have it so that villagers actually upgrade their houses and buy their own furniture and shit so every one of your villagers doesn't end up with a shitty one-room house full of bugs and whatever trash items you dumped on them when they asked.
Let you move in with a villager with a bonus of having villagers help you pay off Tom Nook's debt and starting off with a two-room house, but with the expense of losing a room permanantly to their control.
Maybe let the player play as one of the animal species? I dunno, I can't think of how customization would work too well, especially with stuff like your character's face and colors and such.
Let villagers wear more than the skirt/shirt thing. Most shopkeepers wear pants/hats/shoes, why can't normal villagers?

Customization would be easy, you'd select the type of animal you are then they'd have different faces per the questions you answer just like for your human self, and you can dye your fur/skin later with patterns too.
