if it was just a "LE VEE MAY MAY" there wouldn't have been backlash on Gene getting turned down for MvC, Capcom wouldn't have given a shit about re-releasing it, and IGN wouldn't have retroactively changed their tune about the game and re-reviewed it not to mention give it a spot in their "Best PS2 games" list.
