No games -> No one buys it -> Developers don't see a market for it -> Developers don't make games -> No games

We'll try again in a decade or so when it's the REAL (REALLY REAL THIS TIME GUYS) VR Revolution.
>>
>>377931706

I dont think VR is going to go away for consumers like it did after the 90s but It will shrink (and really already has) alot until its even more of a niche. It go like that for a decade or so while the technology is refined and from there itll slowly enter usage for average person.

The only reason to use this shit is for porn and Japanese lewd games (basically porn and glorified VNs). There are no substantive AAA games out for it other than cockpit games like space fighters and train simulators. It will forever be niche, but that's fine. We don't need some sweeping VR revolution where everyone owns one.

PSVR dumped most of their exclusives on steam a few weeks ago.
Occulus and Vive still have no gaems that aren't glorified tech demo.
If there would be games VR would be fine, but there aren't.
Hurts because at least the PC HMDs are preddy gud hardware wise.

Still can't judge, because they rushed the hardware without giving devs enough time to come up with games.
And VR is still the shit at tech shows with everyone trying to get in.

The problem are the games.
VR gaming is fine and can provide a lot a normal game can't - but the meme is that you pay 15-40 dollars for a 2-4 hour techdemo of what should be one or two game mechanics.

There is actually a lot of things i enjoyed in that list (pic related) - but that doesn't say anything if there is nothing to enjoy anymore after max 4 hours.

i legitimately have not thought about this inevitability. if vr was ever remotely popular among normies every goddam game would have forced vr options that would mean budget wasted that could have gone to actually making the game better. can't we just have a niche hardware company that makes good vr for sims that's easy to implement?

not really. farpoint just came out for PSVR, sold alright judging by online population. oculus just got a few new games in their store. vive trying to play the field more widely is the only one failing. touch has completely and utterly shit all over the vive wands, to a point where the oculus is just straight up superior in every way now.

One would have been fine for the multi button utility, but they really blow when it comes to stick emulation.
Gladly valve made lighthouse tech available for 3rd parties to make their own periphs/hmds so better controllers soon.
We are in the early adopter stage anyway....
>>
Was it ever really alive?
In the the nearly 4 decades VR has been pushed, has it ever shown to be an even mildly strong platform?
>>
>>377938387
The problem is they already fucked up and since you need a new periphial not many companies are designing vr with that in mind. thats why in so many fps games instead of running there is teleporting. Even games like serious sam with free movement feel awkward with the track pad
>>
Demo'd the Vive at a windows store a year ago. The tech was amazing, but I suspect the price and lack of games is what's keeping it from catching on. And the lack of porn, I'd buy one just for that.
>>
>>377938691
Well, touch to move is pretty mandatory, than you can get used to it.
And atm a lot of people are developing for VR, and quite a few of them use the lighthouses, because that's be honest, they are the best tracking method atm.
So yeah it's either better tracking and shitty trackpads or better controller and shitty betastages roomscale.
>>
>>377937959
>Don't assume everybody is as stupid and unimaginative as you.

The 3DS was also nothing really new. The only feature was a lack of glasses. Of course 3D on a small, low resolution display with outdated graphics won't be impressive.

VR is on a whole new level. IT'S NOT A GIMMICK. Hardware just has to advance a bit for it to really shine. It's only a matter of time.
>>
>>377937959
People comparing the vive/occulus to the 3ds are fucking retards who have no clue what they're talking.

I don't own one due to the lack of worthwhile games/porn, but I've tried it and the quality of the VR is leaps and bounds ahead of anything we've had before.
>>
I'll wait for the vive 2. No point buying the beta hardware
>>

Honestly if you bought one the joke is on you, they are overhyped and overpriced pieces of garbage. Literally the execs of the companies that made these are laughing their asses off that you actually handed over your hard earned NEETbux for it.

I knew what I'm getting into and about the lack of games, but i was curious anyway and I could afford it.

>>

>The modern VR is also nothing really new. The only feature is head tracking. Of course VR on a small, low resolution display with outdated graphics won't be impressive.

>Hardware just has to advance a bit for it to really shine. It's only a matter of time.
More seriously, the hard problem of VR, and one that will never be solved, is that of movement. Teleporting is not acceptable, being limited to room-scale is no good either, and of course having to use a controller's joystick won't cut it because what's the fucking point.
There is also the whole physical feedback thing that's also another can of worms. Point is, better resolution or more FPS won't save VR, saying that hardware just need to "advance a bit for it to really shine" is flat out foolish.
>>
>>377940154
I believe the only game which somewhat solved the movement problem was Eve Valkyrie by simply putting the player into the cockpit of a fighter. While this does work for some neat flight or racing simulators anything else is still shit.
>>
>>377940154
>hold down button on controller
>swing arms like walking
solved and that without needing an autism threadmill for 1000 bucks.
For the rest you still have roomscale.

>>377940370

>>377943164
PornHub was talking about how you'll be able to access VR videos through the PS Browser soon. Not sure how far they've come for that.
>>
So will we ever get to the point where VR headsets are roughly the size of oversized sunglasses?
These big bulky headsets with wires running every where are annoying to use.
>>
>>377943164
download it, put it on a USB, and you're good. It'll work in the media player app by default.

>>377943809
no. The tech necessary is just impossible of being shrunken down right now, and for the foreseeable future. Google glass/IRL HUDs were the closest we were to that, but all the investors dried up, people lost interest because of VR, so the chances of tech advancing is now gone and we're now going to find VR headsets having support ended for them soon enough too.
>>
>>377930108

The REAL problem, the one no one is talking about, is way too many poor people. The oligarchy that's taken over America has made it that so that none of us have this kinda disposable cash. Go ahead, ask around. Who do you know that has several hundred dollars to throw around on something new.

Less cash means less people buy it. Less people buy it means less games being made. Less games means less reason for people to save to buy it.

This isn't just about VR. This is about ALL new innovations being choked out of existence simple because you're spending over 1/2 your paycheck in rent with a job that already I'm topped out in pay.
>>
>>377943809
You need to put in 2 screens, 2 refractor lenses and a bunch of either IR emitters / cams.
You can probably guess how small that can be.
Without cables you also have to put in a Li-Ion battery - so cables also have upsides

Question:

Can PSVR be used with a PC?
I would consider it since it's cheap (less remorse) and I can use it with Senran Kagura too, but I need to be able to use it with my PC also since that's where the porno is.
>>
>>377931256
>800 $ for VR set
>2500 $ for computer powerful enough
>>
>>377944620
No. the breakout box stops it from being functional on a PC. You can just watch the porn on a PS4, you know. everyone's still thinking the video player is as shit as it was near launch. It's gotten pretty solid, even plays muh mkvs.
>>
>>377944620
Some autist already made drivers for that.
But PSVR is the most flawed of all the headsets.
Shitty motion tracking, only 180° tracking, shittier resolution, needs PScam and maybe move controllers - but hey it's one of the most comfy to wear.... if that's enough for you.
>>
Good for sims
>>
Does the Rift still have locked in shit or can I just turn it into a generic device?
>>
>>377946461
As far as i know, the only thing that locks anyone out is the rift store - well they try, but revive exists basically telling their DRM to fuck itself.
Dunno if Revive also works with other OSVR devices.
>>
>>377946782
So if I'm on the fence about this Rift seems to make more sense being half the price.
I just want to drive VR trucks.
>>
>>377946958
They are roughly the same price if you want all the features.
Vive includes motion controllers and roomscale - rift includes a 360 pad.
If you want motion controls and roomscale, you need occulus touch and 2 additional sensors (only 1 comes with rift).
I'd say if you really, only, want to drive VR trucks and are sure that you never want to do anything else go for rift - for everything else go for vive since they made lighthouse available for third party devs, probably giving you the possibility in the future to freely upgrad parts of the set.
But quality wise they are both pretty much the same - vive tracking is a bit better while rift motion controllers are a bit convoluted.

>>
>>377947669
Than Vive will do, but I would tell you to find a way to try out both, even the motion control stuff, before buying.
And to exactly know what you wanna and can play with it before you buy.
I justified my Vive with childhood dreams and space trucking.
But there aren't that many games for it.

Will it be worth it? I have a rift (no controllers) and a Saitek X-55 HOTAS.

I'm tempted to get a racing wheel setup just to use for Project Cars.

>>377938134
Personally, I feel that 'issues' like motion sickness are not only subjective, but possible to acclimate to. I had little motion sickness with my rift, and was able to do everything from 3D waifu blowjobs and jet flying, to roller-coasters and high-speed racing.
>>
>>377930108
Too expensive + No games = DOA
>>
only time I ever had motion sickness was playing that "freeform" mode on tomb raider, where you move the character normally, but head tracking still looks and swivels. The character actually moving independently of my head just fucked something up and I nearly blacked out from it. Other than that though, never had an issue.
>>
>>377948408
>>377938134
I would like to clarify, that even though I had minor motion sickness with my rift, I can easily have motion sickness from being in a car. Again, very subjective, different for everyone.
>>
>>377948408
Eeeeeehhhh ED is one of those games i have easily 300 hours in and would still write a "not recommended" review in steam.

VR wise it's the best you can get, atm.
>>
