This is from a time when sprite-based fighters with tons of animation were viable, such as Metal Slug and Third Strike. In the modern day unless you're doing like four frames of animation like Blazeblue then it's way too much fucking money to do when a 3D model works way better (and sometimes looks better, with GG Xrd)
