You can change the settings to get the game to load those rooms, then change them back after you've crossed through the doorway. It's been quite clear how it works, but there's still no argument as to why putting a sheen on your blade somehow improves it's function, if it's effectively a greatsword that is wielded as a claymore (an actual claymore is larger than a greatsword but w/e, crazy Jap fantasy swords) then that still provides no practical benefit while it only ends up blinding you, the only real gain I can imagine is throwing off the enemy as to where the impact is going to land, but that's a double edged sword since without lots of practice you'll throw yourself off all the same.

Not at all if we're talking about the zweihander/montante/spadone/greatsword

Also the improvement is it does more magic damage that mos armor fan't protect from and it lets you throw sword beams (though each one uses a quicksilver bullet as fuel so you can't do it forever, in other Souls games it uses up durability) and those are things the normal form doesn't have, though it does have more practical swings since the game seems to know its bigger even if its not heavier when changed.
