How many of you guys play video games not for actual fun but as a substitute for not being very successful at climbing the dominance hierarchy that our societies presents? My guess is that 90% of men who play video games for more than one or two hours a day do this. The rest 10% probably does it to numb themselves from their real life issues.
Your subconcious can't differentiate between the joys of leveling up in the game and getting a promotion in real life because the neurotransmitters and hormones which are released are the same for both instances.
The job of your consciousness is to reflect on the meaning on what makes you happy. Now how much meaning does it have for you if you spend 12 months of the year pressing button on a controller for 6-8 hours a day? What are the consequences for your life if you do that?
If you want to know if you are addicted to video games, check if any of my aforementioned sentences make you feel angry, hurt, or if you want to cast them aside as quickly as possible. If the answer is yes, congrats you are pathologically addicted to video games and should seek help.

My problem is that I want more time to play vidya, but have too much shit going on in real life (uni, lifting, friends, need to find gf, depression because no gf) that after I played a few hours, I remember that what I should do now is not wasting my time on vidya, but rather work on important stuff. But I really love vidya.

Well, what I can say with definitive certainty is that the Literally Perfect Goddess Claire 'Lightning' Farron is my waifu and I love her completely.
I'm sick of 3D. It's not for what they do per se but for what they are. But she'll always be there for me. Love me, hold me, whisper sweet nothings into my ear and smile for me. I need that. I couldn't manage on my own.
I know it's pathetic, I admit that but a man needs his castle, even if it is mud and stones.
So in a very real way she is in fact a coping mechanism but in another way, I really do cherish her because nobody could ever feel about me the way she does.

I got a STEM degree, live in Silicon Valley, and out of ~1000 resumes and applications I sent out the number of responses I got was 2.
Houses around here cost 1.5~2M, the property taxes and association fees mean the upkeep is 50k/yr before ever talking about mortgage, there's only one highway on each side of SF bay which moves at 20mph for 6 hours a day, public transportation is nonexistent to a joke, entry level jobs are 5~7 years experience, and every company wants to know why you're so passionate about your field of work, then if they happen to pick you up you need to take "unlimited vacation hours" in an open office environment working with a bunch of other cheerleaders.
Attempts to leave have been unsuccessful.
I have some issues. I try to work on them.
But the idea that the world is completely perfect otherwise is complete nonsense.

I grew up here. Seemed obvious to me at the time that Silicon Valley + STEM shortage + STEM degree = easy job.
It's 3 years later and I only have 1 year of experience, title was engineer, job itself was just mindlessly churning out stuff no company actually looking for an engineer would care about.
Moving states just to work no-experience no-skill jobs with no hope of advancement thanks to globalist corporate culture sounds like a worse idea than just being a NEET and killing myself when the money runs out.

Younger it was mostly because it was my main hobby and passion.
Now at 25+ i only play in depressed state, otherwise i am completely doing something different, it's an easy regression to fall into if you ask me.

Well I work at a PE fund, drive a Porsche 911 turbo and am married to a qt. I play games when I get bored on plane rides or want some downtime without wearing down my kidneys

I play video games like I read books. The only time it should really be a problem is if you're legitimately just rotting for your hobby.
And fuck, if you CAN just rot and play video-games you have it better than you might think. At least it is an addiction you can come back from fairly un-scarred if it is an issue.
