Imagine only having a timeframe of 5 or 10 years to reproduce and every pregnancy only brings one child. Assuming that one pregnancy only lasts 9 months, you're either stuck with using female elves as breeding sows or you're getting only 2 children per woman at max. I remember when I was younger I was planning to write a fantasy novel and one of the races I came up with to populate my world was a race called "The Stone Men".

Basically they were a race of literal living stone humanoids, they were about 9 feet tall on average and were extremely heavy and slow but hard as fuck to kill and really strong. I did my own fantasy world as a teenager for DaD purposes.
It was basically european dark ages.
Elves were Roman empire with majority of it callapsed, scattered and burned to the ground. The other half still standing but abandoned many traditions in order to survive.
Humans were like gothic tribes that hundred years ago made elven empire fall but part of them was accpeted by the empire as lesser citizens during wars and those now try to rebuild fallen parts of the empire but thye are too dumb and busy with infighting to actually do it.
Orcs were like Huns, emerging threat that soon threatens all nations. Nomads, cruel warriors burning and enslaving everyone.
Dwarves were like celtic tribes, long ago strong rivals of elves that nowadays live only in far corners of "has been" empire. Still retaining their culture but inevitably heading towards extinction.
There were also other elves inhabbiting former giants lands. They partly adopted their culture and lived in remants of their cities. They are now bastion of civilised world but are too busy with their own politics and burreaucracy. And orcs threaten them as well. They represented Sasanian empire.

Should make orcs slightly more human and a slightly darker shade, but keep the speech impediments and violent tendencies. Would add some nice variance to fantasy games.
