"50/x" were always considered a decent quality "vanilla" experience, particularly for its price point whenever purchased at a discount (JOIN MASSDROP)

as for the 'lack of soundstage' I find it is a perfect headphone for listening to any kind of extreme metal or prog-death, or any kind metal period.
It really allows you to isolate the different instruments like nothing else.

I've had MDR-V6, M50, and those. And I recommend those, the best I've had until now.
And I don't recommend the others despite being in almost every recommendation chart.
MDR-V6 aren't expensive but lack bass and are cheaply made.
M50 have good sound but have too small earpads, deteriorate very fast, and a tiny shitty bit of plastic between the earpads and the headband broke, so I had to tape that shit because it wouldn't hold anymore.
They barely lasted a year, while my friend's razer shit will soon be 3 years old

competitively priced, easy to find, popular, reasonable quality, replaceable parts. You can find better at the same pricepoint (depending on your needs) but it's no surprise to me that m50x's became so popular. The biggest issues are a slightly warm bass, closed soundstage, and clampy muff grip (and 2 of these can be desirable anyway depending on what you're listening to)
