GTA 4 was fantastic. GTA 5 wasn't terrible, it was redeemed somewhat with the online content. GTA Online is pretty solid now that they don't really give a fuck if someone gives you 100 million in your lobby and there is enough content to let you have fun with your friends.

Because Rockstar DLC used to be good and complete. Episodes from Liberty City are 2 new campaigns with extra online content, 2 new stories, more vehicles and guns and new soundtrack. Undead Nightmare is the same, it's a lot of content.
If you like a game you want more content, I don't mind paying 20 or 30 dollars for a complete experience, I mind paying $5 for little useless items that add fuck all to the game.

The fundamental issue with V is that the violence is now a vehicle for the social commentary. Go all the way back to III and you see it's the other way around. The radio was just a hilarious thing you listened to on the way to committing violent crimes. Now, you complete these boring-ass missions so Sam Houser can tell stories about the American Dream™.

GTA has and always will shine when it's just about being a violent sociopath -- because that's what the rules allow and encourage -- and it's why V is consistently at its best when you're playing as Trevor and they just tell you to go kill some shit, or you go on a rampage because someone looked at him the wrong way. (The game should have been entirely designed around him.)

As-is, V is basically just a big huge tech demo that will sell ninety billion copies because it's never disagreeable about how you should play it and appeals to a wide audience in the process.
