I've been playing battlegrounds lately. I got it at the behest of normie friends, I'd say it's more addicting than it is fun. I wonder the same thing when it comes to all popular competitive online games. I don't like League, I don't like csgo, and I am utterly dumbfounded as to why or how normies feel compelled to sink so much time into these kind of games. Where do they even find the time to put thousands of hours into csgo? I guess they literally just don't do anything else except play this kinda stuff.

I'm in a discord server with a bunch of people I know, and they literally just play the pubg and league over and over again. I guess they love the repetitiveness of it. It's sad. They take it super seriously as well, they get mad more than have a fun time.

People play MP because it's the only genre that is unpredictable until the end result. I really can't speak for MOBAs because I don't play them, but good shooters and fighting games are heavy on emergent gameplay because you really have to understand and play the opponent at a certain skill level rather than go through the motions of a basic flowchart strategy. Flowcharts can get you through every FF game, every SMT game, every Persona game, every Zelda game, etc. The AI for these games aren't F.E.A.R.or even Half-Life 2 levels of adaptable and it's really fucking predictable what will happen after the first fight with a certain set of enemies.

Of course you can find examples of games mechanically incredibly similar (ignoring story and other factors which is, in my opinion, a strong component of SP games). But nonetheless, sf3 and sf4 are mechanically identical aside from refinements and fancy new gimmicks. I don't think it's fair to say SP games are just identical by comparing two specific examples, when I can easily compare Civilization 5 on the hardest difficulty to Deus Ex, which are utterly different and both offer completely different experiences.
