Not sure how to feel about this game

On one hand, it's much better than Absolution and closer to BM

On the other hand, we had to wait for a year to get the complete thing and it has always online DRM

Why is the industry so messy nowadays

That's probably what happened. FFXV didn't make as much money as they wanted and is probably a much bigger flop than they present it as. IO and Hitman are low priority, low profit enterprises even if they are profitable, so they get axed to cover the costs and maintain the illusion that Square's flagship franchise is still alive.

I imagine their analysts can accurately guess the sales they'll get, and so they lower their sales expectations prior to release to mask a huge flop as a small one.

FFXV is a good example, which Square celebrating that it cleared a five million mark. This is Final fucking Fantasy.
>>
>>377892186

Haven't pirated since ~2010 and you're wrong, it protects the companies and their revenue. I have no issues with DRM which works just fine, but going back to old unpatched Games for Windows Live games nowadays is a huge pain in the ass.

Makes no sense. My ability to purchase and play a game is not impacted in any way by some poor Ukrainian fuck getting to play the game for free.
>>
>>377892693
I exclusively pirate Denuvo games. Never buy them later.

Not the case for Denuvo-free games, though. I even buy it full price if I really like it. How do you feel about it?
>>
>>377892904
Denuvo works by calling home once in a while. If it can't connect to the authentication server once every few days, you don't have a game. That server WILL get abandoned eventually, that's not even an "if". You better fucking hope everything is either cracked by then or has denuvo patched out, because otherwise your precious DRM will literally kill games.

Not quite as glorious as the election but it is nice to see shills of any kind whine in impotent rage

The episodic format actually worked to the game's benefit and having the game be always online is necessary for the elusive targets.

I forget, was there some multiplayer competitive aspect to elusive targets? Because other than that, it sounds a lot like it's just there to try and enforce noncheating on single player content by forcing you to always have an internet connection regardless of if you were doing that particular part of the game. Which sounds like a bad trade.

Hell, not even really cheat protection, but simply preventing you from ever accessing the content if you didn't have the game by a certain point.

>>
>>377893025
you're fucking retarded
>>
>>377893945
Not really? The only real reason it's there is to prevent people from accessing Elusive Targets when they're not supposed to, ie. we're cutting off content that has no inherent online or multiplayer component from single players because we believe it can push a few sales by certain dates.

This isn't some big MMO event or whatever. It's literally just missions you do on your own but are forced to only be able to normally play, or even attempt, once and only at a set date in real life. It's not some artsy-fartsy "oooh, look at how the interactive medium of videogaming can be twisted to tell a specific kind of narrative and blur the distinction between the player and the game, spooky" shit either.

>>377894271
Then have your scores not count for the leaderboards if you opt out of the online cheat checking thing. Again, the downsides to this, the whole never ever playing this shit again or at all if you missed it, severely out weigh any purported benefits of this enterprise.

Ultimately, what was the actual point of it?

2016 is the best Hitman game ever created, surpasses, the missions never were so well designed and we never had so many options, it's Blood Money 3.0 pretty much. It's a shame that /v/ is so autistic that can't see a good game behind Denuvo and Always online even when the game was fully cracked

Why do publishers constantly feel the need to fix what isn't broken, ie single-purchase games with maybe DLC/expansions (expansions as in actual content and not just "heroes"/whatever or cosmetic bs). It fails 99 out of 100 times. Moreover why do that to good game series.

Still going to enjoy this when I get round to it though.
>>
>>377890041
Devs aren't publishers you moron.

Between this, FFXV and the new Deus Ex, how the hell could you miss that it's Squeenix who push terrible business practices?

IO made a great game wrapped up in a terrible service, they deserve better.
>>

I don't even see what the issue is.
>>
>>377897649
IO did well actually.

The game sold well enough for them to move to a bigger office.

This is just Square trying to hide the fact that FFXV didn't break even.
>>
>>377897784
>Move to a bigger office
>Lay off your staff
Does that make the office even bigger?
>>
>>377897784

IO is a really odd studio for them to layoff.

Were they just concerned that the content roll-out was costing them too much money, or what? I thought Hitman sold above their expectations.

That being said, Square was pretty quick to nuke Deus Ex after DE:MK sold under par so I guess this should be expected.

Remember how the American Sega division doing well and actually suggesting smart business decisions put such a bug up the Japanese division's butt they pretty much single handedly sunk their company and killed their console production? It's like that. All giant companies have massive idiots at their head only disguised by the bags of money and overwork by the rest of the company to make up for it, but Japan's companies have a bread a particular kind of idiocy in this increasingly global corporate ecosystem: kneejerk loyalty to the Japanese branch above all else.

Japanese media producers still consider, for better or worse, any sales outside of Japan to be nice bonuses. It can be worth the investment, but they're not going to really dedicate much to it. It's still the home base that matters, even if in the grand scheme of things it begins to look really retarded to throw all these other resources under the bus to prop up a homegrown failure. Every so often it looks like things might be changing, or this or that company willing to give some attention or focus to the larger market, but fundamentally the corporate forces are still the same.

Hitman EP1 made as much money as projected. This is however Square Enix, and since their japanese shit flops whole the time they expect ex-eidos franchises to pull them out. Hitman didn't do so, so it got axed.

Don't even ask the question whether it makes sense or not - it doesn't, it's just SE being Japanese EA.

I don't give a shit if it's optional. I bought the game, give me the damn missions
>>
>>377910385
Like I said, it's barely a mission.

Only about 4 of the 20+ ETs so far have actually been good and change the level in a significant way. The permanent content is far superior.
>>
>>377910385
You don't want the missions. Most of them are easily worse than escalations or contracts.

>guy with a couple bodyguards wanders between a couple set points looping forever
>some targets walk by or interact with something to accident kill him otherwise out comes the poison syringe
>>
If they have to either shut down or stop working on the game, I hope they remove the always online bullshit prior to shutting down the company or project.

Adding in all the previous targets would be nice as well, but I'd rather them just remove the DRM/Online shit because I'd hate for the game to be unplayable once the servers shut down.
>>
I literally will not ever understand how Denuvo actually prevents anything, what's stopping literally anyone from just editing all the JZE's to JE's trough ollydbg or, fuck it, even just JMPing to the launch and avoiding the entire thing in general?
>>
>>377890041

Was that the game that had like six missions total in the whole game?
>>
>>377912237
11 that took an hour each, not counting replays, actually.
>>
>>377912513

That's on 11 unique maps?
>>
>>377913138
Yes. Why does the number of maps matter anyway? Absolution had 20 and 18 of them were trash.
>>
>>377890041
why do you keep repeating this thread when we all know that IO got fucked by squeenix? are you really so subhuman that you cannot figure out who decides to put denuvo on a title? have you seriously considered suicide?
>>
>>377913201
>Yes. Why does the number of maps matter anyway?

Because a mission that reuses a map doesn't count as an actual mission.
>>
>>377913783

>GTA only has one mission.

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>377913838

GTA is a 0/10 shit game for Chads.
>>
Is this the ultimate proof that /v/ will ignore quality games for the sake of being whiny?
>>
>>377914609

It is ultimate proof that /v/ will ignore games that have Denuvo.

Except for that one game with the robot girl's naked ass. That one gets special treatment for some reason.
>>
>>377914609
how so?
>>
>>377898967
> doesn't know about Saturn launch
> doesn't know about abandoning dreamcast for xbox
>>
>>377914609
but we dont ignore yakuza
>>
>>377914870
>>377915171
Let me correct him.

/v/ will ignore quality games that aren't Japanese.
>>
>>377891156
>People go out and buy game with always online BS and 3 forms of DRM
>people complain about always online and DRM, but still buy the game
>company says "Who gives a shit, they are still buying the game."
Everyone who buys games with always online and retarded DRM is responsible. Remember Microsoft's position on the Xbox360's kinect thing? How it was 100% a part of the system and could NOT be removed no matter what? People didn't buy, the company bent over backwards to get rid of the offending technology. The exact same thing would happen with always online and DRM if you morons would quit giving them money.
>>
Man, I already boycotted SE after what they did with the always online, but right now I should find a way to actively damage them.
>>
>>377915569
Quit crying you salty pirate.
>>
>>377915372

If it's such a good game, why was it released episodically with intrusive DRM? Checkmate.
>>
>>377915892

Go fuck yourself. You're killing the industry every time you buy one of these anti-consumer games. They deserve no support, no money at all. Even if the game is the best game ever made, it deserves to crash and burn if it's "always online" or has Denuvo, and Shitman had BOTH.
>>
>>377891036
How the fuck do you think they'll stay afloat if not by selling software?
>>
>>377916194
>"You're killing the industry!!"
>Says the pirate who doesn't pay for anything anyway and is the reason DRM he despises exists
>>
>>377916372

I pay for games that don't have DRM. I pirate games that do.
>>
>>377916460
Keep telling yourself that.
>>
>>377916068
Because the publishers didn't give the devs any other option.

Also Hitman is one of the few franchises where an episodic release structure isn't bad, because it's not story focused, is about replay value, and each mission is self-contained.
>>
>>377901474
Marrakesh has so much unrealised potential so people are disappointed in it not delivering said potential.
For example: starting the riot between protesters and the military, the military man travelling the market for poison kills, and the general underuse of the market area.
>>
>>377899428
That doesn't add up. I can't run doom at 100 Fps and I can easily get 60-80 Fps in hitman in levels that aren't sapienza, and my computer is shit.
>>
>>377916491
Keep telling himself he does something? What's implausible about someone pirating games with DRM and buying ones that don't?
>>
>>377891327
>Publisher "forces" them to use a shitload of DRM
that's what happens though. it blows but SE puts denuvo on all their games.
>>
>>377917071
Pirates always claim they buy games that deserve it, yet always find some excuse so that no game can ever deserve a purchase. Muh DRM is just at the top of the long list of excuses.
>>
>>377890041
Justice is best served episodic.
>>
Why are SE such morons on this?
They are selling one of their best assets that recently overperformed. Do they really think their company will hold by selling final fantasies?
>>
>>377915892
I don't pirate, the last game I bought was STALKER. I stopped buying games so I wasn't supporting this crap.

Stop sucking corporate cock.
