If you're looking for an adventure game then it's great, stay away from guides and shit, don't min/max and you should have a great time. The adventuring theme kind of takes some fairly inconsistent turns with Cataclysm levelling but it's still worth it even though there's lots of references to vanilla which may fly over your head

I just jumped in about a week ago and I'm having a pretty good time as a Resto Shaman
Except for whenever I had to keep monk tanks alive in early-level dungeons. They have difficulty mitigating damage and I found it hard to cope with the fact that they kept dashing out of my healing range

Definitely play on a private server like Elysium for the vanilla experience. Still incredible.

If we're talking raiding bears are in front by a mile hence the reason they're getting gutted next patch. Monk is the best paired with bear for mythic guldan specifically with pally generally being paired with bears for the rest of NH. The other tanks are kinda meh but are receiving buffs which might make them viable for ToS. Dungeon wise they've all got their strengths and weaknesses, I have a lot of fun vengeance tanking

I stopped playing before guldan's instance came out because I couldn't find a class that felt fun to play. I went through warrior, DK, DH, mage, and warlock and I genuinely didn't enjoy any of them.

Not really, you can play Cata > Legion without any real problems, and TBC is kinda a time capsule, but vanilla and WOTLK make no sense in the timeline now

Also you'll not get to see/experience certain events that heppened during patches, like the opening of AQ, the Wrathgate saga or Operation Shield etc.

If you wanna experience the "lore" and "story" go and watch Nobbel87s videos and consider playing on privates servers if you really wanna get a feel of the game

If you want to play the game at endgame for PvP/PvE then theres no real issue, but quite a lot of the lore of the game is gone now

I did the same thing as you. In WoD and MoP there were like 7 classes that I wanted to play all at the same time, and settled on shaman. I was ready to play Monk, Warlock, Hunter, Warrior, Druid, DK, you name it, there was a spec that I wanted to play/learn on it because of how fun it looked.
In legion, they botched all the shaman specs except resto. So I did the same thing you did, and tried out Mage, DH, War, Monk, Shaman, and hunter. They all sucked and made me quit in 7.1.5 after grinding out hundreds of dungeons in hopes of getting good RNG on legendarys. The only fun that I had in Legion was running Karazhan when it was released before we knew how to access nightbane.

This really bugs me about MMOs. Content does not become "obsolete". Babies are still being born that will never get to enjoy the old content, not to mention a lot of money went into it. It seems wasteful to just throw it away because some people are getting tired of leveling up alts.

The story might be a bit confusing since you haven't been following it up until the point and you'll be encountering a lot of characters who are either now evil and/or dead

They should be doing another old world overhaul next expansion so I'd wait for that.

There is no point playing WoW for the story, it's a disjointed mess of fanfic-tier writing. A lot of the plot and pretty much all of the character development in WoW takes place in the novels.
