The biggest thing that pisses me off about Japanese society is that people who are being exploited will rush to the defense of whoever's abusing them and shoot the messenger instead. You can see it at the beginning of the game:

Because life is hard and by accepting that the people above you are going to take advantage of you, you can find comfort in your own little world where you don't have to exert effort.
You can sit in your little space, go to work/study/be a neet. You will continue existing without fail so the comfort of having your own effortless space is fine for most people.

Rocking the boat just creates issues. There is a distinct lack of rebellion within people today against injustice.
I see it at work when I talk to people, my friends and family, even people here on 4chan just don't care.
They've been taken in my apathy and don't feel the rage when injustices are committed.

Now imagine that on a societal scale where each and every ant is taught to work for the good of society. Having that ingrained in you is just going to cause those who step on other to continue climbing upwards. There is an infinite amount of bodies you can walk on to that summit when everyone is compliant.

Think about it: in an area of the globe when you have incredible amounts of people shoved into very tiny spaces it's just easier to go with the flow of social norms rather then rebel and make the whole river rage.

This is where they felt like a kiddy team, every character that came after killed all the shenanigans and characters like Futaba who are perfect at hacking or boring no fun allowed chicks like Makoto or irrelevant waste of space haru ruined the team dynamic and ruined any tension the game had whatsoever

Haru was a mistake. Genuinely provided nothing to the team at all.
You could have removed her and nothing would have changed.
Futaba and Makoto at least sorta had plot use, Futaba more than Makoto.

Because the older you get the more you understand change is seldom for the better.

People are afraid of disrupting the status quo and being labelled a trouble maker or a weirdo. People also don't know what they want and don't know if things can be better. And trying to improve things takes real effort and knowledge that's hard to obtain.

I sort of want to participate in a grassroots political movement but I don't even know where to start.

Changing is hard, and in many times trying to change something can make your life harder.

And if we talk about rebelling against people in power they simply can destroy you easily. Case in the game with Madarame destroying his former pupils reputations.

Also some cultures in general love to exploit their power and use it against lower positions, my dad works at a Chinese company and the way many of the superiors treat subordinates is awful.

East asian here, actually curious as to what you people do when you want change. I mean from what I see most people who "want change" in America and the like mostly turn out to be fucking idiots who don't even know the whole picture behind what they're advocating and just want to look righteous fighting for a cause. See also SJWs and other "liberals" who are so far off the mark it's like they're not even trying.
