Put thread IDs already to stop samefagging and filter shitposters.

The only way Post IDs could possibly help samefagging is if there was a requirement for an account system. Otherwise, use of proxies, VPNs, phones, or modem resets will simply continue to be used to bypass the system.

And yes, use of any of the above is simple. It takes more effort to upload an image to 4chan and write up even the smallest of shitposts than it does to switch an IP.

The point is, unless there is an account system, people who want to shitpost WILL shitpost. This site's history is filled with those who have been IP range banned yet continue to post, perhaps even to this day, and these people are not even close to being elite hackers.

If we need anything to change, we need a stricter moderation presence to enforce topicality. The problem there is finding unpaid moderation staff that would not moderate with bias, something else that plague's this site's history. Regardless, I believe it's a better option than stepping away from anonymity - and yes, even anonymity within threads.

Okay. Here's what we do:
We ban everything and everyone I don't personally like, and everything else can stay.

As a guy with 8 years of /v/ and some recent /pol/ experience, I'd like to point out something. /pol/ is the epitome of shitposting atm, every single thread (well, apart from the ones I'll talk about in a minute) consist of a maybe relevant subject filled with generic memes like pepes, WE and such. But.

There are smaller "boards" within /pol/. The ones people here always complain about when it pops up. Britpol, syria general, trump general, natsoc general all have really vivid communities and actual discussions about their subjects. Anyone who tries to shitpost in them gets ignored by its community asap and its just business as usual again.

We too have New Vegas Threads , vidya draw threads, MUTHAFUCKA threads, /v/eekend threads to say the least and we should encourage them more. I don't remember any FNV threads getting derailed by F4 fags for example. It's community, including me, is rock solid.

/vg/ is a containtment board. It's not for discussing video games and I'm not trolling.

Two simple rules for anyone who genuinely cares about the state of this board:
1. Report posts which break the rules. This includes off-topic and console war threads, which most of you don't seem to realize. The only way you'll be banned yourself for abusing the report function is if you report literally every post or opinion you dislike without reason.
2. Don't reply to bait. Report it, don't reply. This is the hardest fucking thing for most /v/tards. You see, internet forums are a place for people to exchange their opinions.
This one is devoted to video games.
Instead of offering their own opinion, some choose to regurgitate what their favorite children's entertainer had to say.
This does not contribute well to a topic, and never serves as a good conversation starter.
Moreover, in practice, threads centering on these ecelebs are never remotely about video games.
In these threads, mentally ill people gossip about some dude's body, doxx his girlfriend, or just generally obsess about some guy like this is their personal issue of Tiger Beat.
There is ALWAYS at least a couple eceleb threads up everytime I check, and they never get deleted no matter how far they veer off topic.
So I think the mods should rectify this, implement in new rules if necessary.
