Disgaea games are optional grindfests. You can do the main story and call it quits and if that's all you want out of it then it's still worth the purchase. If you want to do the post game you do the post game. The point is that it's not obligatory.

Powering up your unit now takes Items, Reincarnation, killing enemy's for stat boosting items, capturing enemy's then torturing them and finally a booardgame.

Why the fuck did /v/ tell me this game was awful?This is a lot of fun, I haven't enjoyed a story in a Disgaea game this much since the first one.
I actually like every character introduced thus far, and the maps are a lot bigger than in the other games, I've found myself being legitimately challenged much more often than in say, DD2.

Maybe try not using that attack then. Besides it has the best menus, the most customisation, best graphics by far and a lot of other neat options.

All it needs is a better endgame, and it'd be the best by miles.

story maps usually have some nice gimmicks to them and some small semblance of strategy if you're not grinding to the point where you can just decimate any map in a few turns.

It's a nice change from the item world where random geo stone placements just make you want to murder someone when they're catastrophically not in your favor, usually pretty far into a run.
