Chivalry WAS a good game. On release, that was. And that being said, it was a very fun fast paced game that you could apply skill to. It was shameful because in less than a week, I'd be getting MVP in almost every match.

However, the only thing that stopped this game from being great were the patches. Changing the damage of weapons, etc etc. It ruined everything that was set up. These guys build games with one idea in mind, and when people whine "X IS OP", they change the formula. But they don't know how to properly balance it back out other than highlighting a main issue.

It's a world of warcraft roundabout nerf type deal. Or even LoL. Everything just keeps getting tweaks because "muh balance" but the problem is that they tipped the scales to begin with and never got back to where they were.

M&B's combat is great but it's clunky and blocky. It's certainly not "smooth" at all. And that's the comparison between Chivalry and Mordhaus. They're smooth. M&B is a medieval game but the combat is not polished in any way. Does it mean it's bad? No. But it does look like a pile of bricks to most people. And that's one of the hurdles you have to get over to have fun in the game. Just like Dwarf Fortress.

It was fun when the combat revolved around quick parries, dodges, carefully judging whether you're in range etc. Then it just became a fucking mess with people exploiting the directional attacks, instantly hitting you with overheads, sanic-stabbing you in the dick, running around in a circle like a tool and so on. It just drained all the fun away for me, and even if you tried emulating this bastardized way of playing, it just wasn't fun or satisfying in the least.
