During development for the hopes and dreams but after releaes it was merely used to connect utter disappointment.

Originally it would have been intended as an expansion port, like how the PSP had a port at the top that its camera was compatible with.

They just designed it as a means to add functionality in the event it was necessary.

Proprietary USB with potential for peripherals.

Got canned when there was no desire for peripherals and the bluetooth got added for the TV, too late to change the design and why not keep it? someone might have used it.

I think they hold the console in place during the dock.

It was gonna be a video out, but then they made the PSTV instead.

Didn't the PSP-1000 have an IR sensor that was never used?
