OoT got quite big with some bizarre designs so they keep on using them.

Links Awakening and Ocarina of Time added all sorts of flavor to the franchise that wasnt there before.

That's just how Japanese imagine a typical gay.
>>

Bolson isn't gay. He wants a wife.

Can I have a citation on this?

he say it at the very end, when you finish the whole quest and the wedding is over.

his whole character is to make you believe that he's gay and BAM, he's not.

>that fucking walk cycle

I never laughed so fucking hard at anything in that game until that point

>What's with Zelda games and weird looking NPCs?

It's a game developed in Japan, a country that has virtually nothing to do with any of the cultural or artistic standards that might have influenced creative works in the West.

Japanese media always tends to be flamboyant and over-dramatized. That may be due to historical influences such as kabuki theater, which delivered its message more through style and vivid imagery than realism.

>>377829992
He literally says spouse to make it clear he's super gay, only retards could miss this.
>>
>>377828405
Characters in TP are just ugly.

Every single one of the 3d ones. OoT/MM spooked me terribly with some of their npc designs.
>>
>>377829992
He says spouse, though. He doesn't specify that he's looking for a wife.

ERM HES GAY NOT WEIRD YOU FUCKING HOMOPHOBE.

The carpenters are rather explicitly gay in the Japanese version. They use female pronouns and word structure, and call Link a "cute boy." (That part was actually rendered as transliterated katakana verbatim from English, but the English translation changed it to "cute kid" for whatever reason.)

At the very least, they're intentionally campy. Some of their camp-ness is lost in translation.
>>
carpenters being effeminate is a zelda meme

Just look at Kabuki theatre, or japanese folklore in general. That's one thing i always loved about Zelda, the really expressive looking NPCs. It's a cultural thing.

Quite happy with BotW in that sense. Zoras never looked so good too
>>
>>377831398
But were they not trying to get Gerudo pussy in OoT?
>>
>>377831398

Probably didn't want to make it seem more pedophilic I guess?

Which is odd, given the Great Fairies straight up fuck Link
>>
>>377831523
All the designs in botw really fits together and feel like they belong in the same universe.
In both SS and TP the designs felt so caricatured and exaggerated most of them don't feel like they fit under the same universe.

what does he say in the japanese version?

Prince Sidon has one of the best designs in any Zelda game
>>
>>377831398
Really? Didn't know that. But what about the head carpenter's son? Is he still his son in the Japanese version?

>In both SS and TP the designs felt so caricatured and exaggerated most of them don't feel like they fit under the same universe.

My impression of TP was that all the characters looked like something from an island culture. Even the more campy characters still have just enough common elements to fit with the rest of the cast, despite their gaudy outfits and colorful designs. Link is the only one who stands out due to his tunic and tights. But his hero's clothing was handed down to him from a whole different generation.
>>
>>377828152
He'd actually be decently handsome if he wasn't balding and didn't have the red nose. I think he'd look okay if he just had some hair.
>>
>>377831694
Well that is true. There's a coherence in the general design while still keeping an otherness that gives the world a cultural depth. Gerudos/Gorons wandering around the hylians parts of the world for example seemed to fit in the overall universe but you could clearly see (and they often acknowledge it themselves when you talk to them) how they all evolved differently in their cultures. I loved that.

>>377831794
Yeah Sidon is great, but even the zoras swimming near Kakariko village asking you to come to their domain (since they were my first encounter with Zoras) were better looking than any other zora in any other Zelda game. They looked like aliens before.

>>377831794

I think they're some of the better-looking characters in Twilight Princess. The characters in that game were pretty freaky overall. You might be able to tell, but the designer worked on Pikmin.
