I think I ran P3MC and Naoto as status inflicters and debuffers, and then I had Kanji, Aigis and Junpei.

Junpei has really average stats, but his abilities are fucking crazy good. Myriad Arrows is broken as fuck in PQ because you can just hit enemies with a status ailment or bind their legs and it essentially becomes the equivalent of Hassou Tobi as the hit chance becomes 100%. Combined with the fact that Junpei has a 50% chance to cast spells twice, Death Chaser and Kanji can hit a ridiculous amount of links, the game becomes a joke when you hit enemies with a billion myriad arrows, have Kanji link and then have Junpei continue hitting with death chaser

Aigis is just a really strong tank and can also contribute to Myriad Arrows shenanigans when she doesn't have anything else to do

Problem with Yusuke is he's jack of all trades but master of none.

At least in Golden, I think the best party is definitely Yukiko, Chie and Kanji. They all have Charge abilities and severe damage type spells. Yukiko has Salvation as well (why does the highest magic damage dealer also have the best healing spell in the game?) and Chie has Dragon Hustle which is a full party Heat Riser.

It does cost like 70% of her SP pool, but that's kind of irrelevant since you don't get it until the end of the game where you have like a billion SP recovery items anyway.

Why is Stupei there and not Aigis? The reason Akihiko/Aigis works so good is that Aigis can buff the party while Akihiko can debuff the enemy thus maximising damage

In P3, the general strategy is maximizing the protagonist's damage and watch him tear everything to shreds.

In P4 and P5, the party's a little more balanced, meaning they can actually potentially do almost as much damage as the protagonist so having them do something other than support is totally viable and even recommended.

The fact that he can be used for everything doesn't mean he should be. If you have to heal with him, you've fucked up on a previous turn.

There's a reason most of the videos you see of P5 setups have Joker using 2-3 personas to buff/debilitate then attack - it's because, ideally, that's what you should be doing all of the time with him. The other Persona slots can hold whatever you want, but you shouldn't actually use them.

You could do a Haru, Ann, Ruuji party where Joker is the main healer - his ability would let him do that roll perfectly. You could beat the game this way. You would also be retarded.

His Love Shot move was pretty useful, and he does really good damage. I used him to run away from bosses while dealing damage. Made every encounter really easy.

My final party was just characters that I liked in the game, since every one was pretty useful. Yes, I even took them to the final battle.
Yuri / Repede / Raven / Karol

Ryuji/Makoto/Yusuke here.
I found Ryuji+Yusuke combo pretty good on Hard especially for conserving SP + clearing palaces in minimum days.
Yusuke learned Masukukaja + Speed master early compared to everyone else helped. I prefered Makoto to Morgana since her Flash Bomb + Dizzy status complemented Yusuke's moves quite well. And his buff saved Ryuji's poor accuracy.
Lots of fire demons also learned ailment moves so I never used Ann except for Yaldy. Like how I never used Morgana except for hunting treasure demons.

Don't know why people hate on Joker being used as a healer. He's actually the best healer early-mid until the others learn the final tier because he can get divine grace. I actually use him more as support because I don't waste a lot of time fusing most of the time and just use whatever I pick up. I only fuse to make room really which probably isn't optimal but who cares.

I'm playing Persona Q and I have never really seen much use for Chie, Junpei, Yosuke, Teddie and Koromaru. Sure I have benched Rei&Zen, Mitsuru, Shinjiro, and Yukari but they have all at least contributed well in earlier game like Yukari having earlier access to Media and Mediarama, Mitsuru with mind charge and tentafoo, Shinjiro with his defence debuff, and ReiZen with their higher health and sp early game before you get sub personas.

In contrast Akihiko (all around good stats, high speed, good link starter), Yukiko (agi-luck reverse makes her Naoto lite), P3's protagonist (all around good stats leaning to magic), Kanji (attack buffer and innate bestial roar), Ken (hama skills, high luck and speed, good for binding and status inflictions) and especially Naoto (high speed, luck and magic, muti hitting hama and mudo, megido) have contributed very well.

Anyone else have some thoughts on PQ's party members?

I don't really see how Junpei is that good. I don't have Golden Gemini yet and he seems to be just an inferior Kanji or Shinjiro. And not having Golden Gemini until later on would hurt his viabillity, no? There is absolutely no reason to ever use most of the cast of Final Fantasy Type 0 unless you are doing some sort of challenge run. All the ranged attackers are simply better than the melee characters because of how the game is designed with weak points and enemies who can only be hit by ranged attacks in the first place. And at the end of the game you only use Rem because she is the best at spamming 0 MP cost magic.
