That's how you learn them, by getting new runes.
Also some spells won't pop up in your book but you can deduct them through basic logic.
Every rune stands for something, like for example the different elements or what kind of space it's casted on (AoE or projectile).

For example using the fire AoE spell and replacing the fire rune with the ice rune will create an ice surface instead.
