I don't even know how people can tolerate Trails. I kept trying to play Cold Steel but kept getting bored with it an hour in. People kept egging me on, saying "It get's way better once you hit the second game!"

More like nothing fucking happens for 40 hours except during a few terribly directed cutscenes and then the game splurges out the meat of the main quest in about 5 hours, 3 of which are the final dungeon.

Kiseki is only really fun if you're the kind of guy who REALLY likes slow, insipid anime soap opera, other that that, the games have no outstanding qualities whatsoever, even the music is far below Falcom's standard in most of the game, Kiseki is basically a really longwinded FF with less production values.

They're not Nepshit mind you, but they're hardly the "masterpieces" Kisekifags want people to believe, it's really low tier otakushit made by Falcom for easy bucks.

I really like this series despite moments when its flaws rear their head. Much of the NPC dialogue is at least pleasant, but can be subtle or even suspicious. Putting words in my mouth about how the plot sucks stopped being funny a while ago...plot's never great, but usually good, and enough to make the character interactions better than they should be. Music and art style's always a treat, even compared to other Falcom games, and I've gotten used to slow, mediocre pacing because of the games' strengths.

Gotta say, I hope Sen III makes the disappointing build-up and resolution in the previous two games worth it, not that they're bad. Trails 3rd just reminded me what the Cold Steel games are lacking in writing. Remember to use Cheat Engine if you think the PC games are slow. Speedhack can make a huge difference when you're not suffering through needlessly long battle animations.

Kiseki's approach is far enough from FF: less use of blockbuster cinematics/set-pieces, no explicit high-fantasy goal pressed on the cast early on, and more use of side-quests and errata to develop the world. Not sure what's insipid, either, since there's often an ulterior motive to what you're reading at that point in-game. At worst not much happens in the plot for some hours, but I don't think that means nothing's happening at all, or even close. Story's more than just the concrete events and progression, and Trails writers do a good job with all that when it comes time.

I have to disagree on music. There's a lot of care put into the soundtracks, starting with FC, even if they don't try for the badass sound all the time. Zero/Ao no Kiseki have more modern BGM that might appeal more without going down the same path as Cold Steel's OSTs.

What was the enjoyable part? I've run through FC twice, and even the second time through knowing what to do and all, it was still just okay. I think I'd be more fond of this series if their play time was cut by 2/3rds. Far to much blah-blahing about nothing. Especially so in Cold Steel. Characters just need to shut the fuck up. The idea that everybody in the current scene needs to spew at least one line of dialogue needs to be dropped and hard.

3rd is shorter than SC unless you do all the Doors, some of which have a lot of NPC dialogue which adds a few hours if you track it all down. It ended up taking a little less time for me than FC overall, even after doing everything, but I wouldn't say it's a huge amount shorter. As for the characters, I already like or love most of the Sky cast, but I think the writing in most Doors (even long ones like Moon Door 3) is plain good. Moon Door 2 and Star Door 15, plus Chapter 7, are heavy stuff.

There's no denying battles are slow, even if the combat system's somewhat well-designed. Good thing Zero/Ao changed things to mitigate this. On a higher difficulty, I'd be fine waiting for the animations since there's some unusually tough parts of SC on Hard or Nightmare, but it's best to speedhack in battle otherwise.

Doesn't happen in FC, and in SC you spend *maybe* 30 minutes chatting with the big bad, then you fuck his shit up. Before that, if you go up Axis Pillar without leaving, it's about 2-3 hours, less with speedhack. The real problem with SC's Finale is a lack of fast travel, since it's worth revisiting camp to switch out fighters and get new dialogue. Great end chapter for the most part tho.
