Not really, for me the knowledge about nier ruined a lot of automata: it made me focus on stuff that wasn't really essential for the story for example i knew that humans couldn't be alive from the get go so the whole "serve humanity" thing seemed retarded from the get go, i even imagine that without knowing about original nier the whole thing would have had a stronger air of mystery that it ended up having.

Still, you can watch clemp's review/analysis and be pretty much up to speed.
