Machamp in pokken is hype as hell, he can't get in to save his life but when he does fucking single grabs from him do like 1/3 of the other character's lifebar

Gief's moveset is a very fantasy-themed version of pro wrestling. His lariat isn't really a lariat. Spinning Pile Driver isn't a real move, but Kenny Omega did one once. Suplex is a pretty standard move.

Shermie has various suplexes, along with some crazy over the top head scissors type moves. One of her moves seems to be a modified version of the Steiner Bros. signature move The Frankensteiner. Also, she has Stone Cold Stunner, which is always great.

I love Alex's sheer overabundance of actual wrestling moves. His F+HP is a lariat, and his V-Trigger is also a lariat. Standing HK is Hulk Hogan's signature Big Boot. Forward grab is a body slam (Fits into the Hogan motif, as this is the move he famously used against Andre the Giant). Power bomb is a pretty basic move. Alex's super in SFV is an over the top version of a Crucifix Power Bomb AKA Scott Hall's Outsider's Edge. His flash chop is an obvious shoutout to Ric Flair's chops. Also has a tornado DDT, which would be impressive to see a man of his size actually do. One thing a lot of people miss is that his jumping D+HP seems to be a suicide dive, another common technique that was popularized in Mexico.

Alex was the first grappler who didn't feel slow as molasses for me, and had relatively easy combos. First character to beat 3S arcade with. Potemkin if we're talking full tank mode, hammerfall cancel into potemkin buster is satisfying to land.
Don't play him but mvc3 thor is kind of underrated.

like almost none of the top tiers rely on grabs, not even as damage rack, they just have superior frame data and win by using moves they dont have to commit to, the only exception is zss who has one of the most punishable grabs in the game

stop
feint and backdash to bait
tostada press (overhead, safe)
tortilla (overhead command throw)
fajita buster (insane damage command throw)
low slide (hits anyone standing)
mid kick or jump depending on which way you're running

all of these can have their distance adjusted by holding the joystick in a direction

you can tostada press, fajita buster, or attack off of a wall jump

to cover options for focus attacking opponents you can quesdilla bomb, ex will bounce them off the wall not only doing insane damage but also set up for guacamole, which is a great anti air in its own right

oh also dash can be ex'd get not one, but two hits of armor

I'm not very fond of command grapplers but characters of another archetype who have a command grab combo extender are the hottest shit

Most fun way to play CvS2 is to have Iori in an SNK groove, bully with run up -> cr. short into mixups with short hop j. strong or empty short hop into hcb f + P command grab on landing

Your 100% theory fighter-approved strats aren't going to get you anywhere man. You make it sound like people aren't going to play defense. Say you command run with the mindset of pressing offense. The person neutral jumps *on reaction* to your approach, within a certain range. This will make your tostada press or slide whiff regardless of how you think these moves work in your head. If you throw either of these out, you are eating a combo. There is no avoiding it.

Upon adapting to this tendency, then you can keep a guacamole press on deck, or be prepared to anti-air with tortilla on landing. Of course, the other player will have options for these too. Welcome to the game of rock paper scissors that is every fighting game on the planet.
