Casuals don't make use of the tools available. Casuals don't farm shards, casuals don't learn from mistakes, casuals don't examine enemy tactics. Hell, plenty of casuals don't even know you can summon help.

The gargoyles are pretty much the definition of casual filter. Not one, but TWO bosses to fight early in the game, where you're barely learning to handle singular enemies on their own. Same with the Capra Demon. Another filter designed entirely to get you to understand your environment and not to turtle up in fear (because the first thing the Capra does is his 2h smash, which will crush/one shot most guards that early).

Now Vordt? Not much of a casual filter. Big arena, single boss, does nothing shocking.

Look at ps4 trophies completion %. Almost 40% of players didn't make it past the first mandatory boss. In DaS3 it takes until Pontiff to see those numbers.

All the other Souls games have much more gradual declines in completion. 60% of players get out of the first area in Bloodborne, then 30% go on to finish the game and 7% do absolutely everything possible. If you ignore the filtered casuals that's incredibly high retention.

I didn't die to any boss in that game. In fact, I didn't die at all after like 20 hours invested into doing sidequests and collecting shit/visiting shrines while comfy and baked. Entire game was easy shit.

I think it could and should have been fixed by simply scaling the enemies within the "dungeons" to Link's relative level of strength/upgrades, instead of having everything set up so that you can do it with 3 hearts.

That way tryhard "3heart, gostraight2ganon" runs will still be possible, but those that take the time to play the game wouldn't have had snoozefests for their "major dungeon" parts of the game.
