Evochron Mercenary is great. The newest game looks even better. I haven't played it, but if it's anything like the original, you can literally make your ship to look like whatever you want. You can use an XYZ axis to change the shape of certain blocks and do color changes.

Elite Dangerous is still a thing.
Fractured Space is a spaceship MOBA that, in my opinion, is actually playable since it isn't ASSFAGGOTS in any way. Still got Kerbal Space Program.
I forgot how Project Freedom plays, so give those a look. Project Nimbus is a mech space game.
Shattered Horizons is a (dead) space shooter. Not bad with bots. I think a few /v/ people get a server going every once in a while.
Everyone rages about Advent Rising, though I forgot how it plays. Feels like a standard RPG-ish space game if I remember correctly
Battle of Sol is another space strategy game
Battlefleet Gothic is a so-so space RTS. I dunno may want to just look at it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Icarus 1 is something I would pirate. It's a fun little adventure game that takes place on a space station. It's not very long at all though.
Ring Runner is a fun and cute top down space ship shooter. It's sort of a mix of an rpg, adventure, and shooter, not a shmup but just a shooter
Star Raiders is a 3rd person space fighter game. I didn't like it one bit but you may as well check it out.
Strike Suit Zero. Nother one I didn't like but check it out anyways.
For the love of god, don't buy strike vector. Shit is dead as fuck

Play freespace. There is still an active modding scene and they did some incredible things with the game. If you like dogfights and fighting against giant alien capital ships then it's the game for you. Pretty good story too. Fuck I might install it again right now.

I flew combat ships for a while, explored, traded and did courier and assasination missions.
I spent a very long time just chilling and exploring at my slow pace.

Last thing I did was use an exploit to make 1 billion credits, buy an Anaconda and FDL with A-rated everything and then stopped playing.
