babies first rpg
no seriously. you played this game as a kid and thought it was challenging and depthful. It's not. Upon a replay of this game as an adult, it's a fucking bore. It's a straight forward linear game with basic baby rpg elements. Thousand year door is the exact same. Super Paper Mario actually gives you some freedom and challenge.

Guy, it's a Mario game. They're supposed to be accessible for newcomers to the industry and to the genre.

Switch TTYD with 64 and it's perfect.

nah. the combat is much more challenging than the average rpg where you just select a command and watch it play out like a movie.

This guy knows what's up
TTYD is better than 64 in every way, fite me

Boggly Woods and Twilight Town sucked ass.
Too much backtracking.
>>377772246
both have their upsides and downsides.

actually it's worse in every way except the combat system

chapter 4 in a nutshell:
>go to twilight town
>go to stop bell
>gates locked go get permission from the mayor
>he's a pig
>gate guard is pig
>go to creepy steeple
>do some puzzles
>fight ??????
>go back to twilight town
>get Vivian to join you
>go back to creepy steeple
>get his true name and the letter "p" (to stop players from skipping a story sequence if they already knew)
>go back to twilight town and say his name
>chase him back to creepy steeple
>fight him yet again only this time he has your partners
if that isn't the definition of artificial length I don't know what is.

I guess I can try to defend Chapter 4. The backtracking is pretty much necessary due to the player being forced to lose all their partners temporarily for the shock/twist of losing your body. You don't have to adjust to a new area while you run from the hyper-goombas. I don't see how else they could have executed this idea without the chapter overstaying its welcome. I think it was worth it because the whole fake "star get" scene was something I never would have expected after playing other Mario RPGs that like to stick to structure.

only little bitches run from those they are chumps.

I don't give a fuck about challenge, I find the gameplay fun & the areas/events entertaining, it's more fun than just watching a scene play out after inputting a command since you have actual input and there are a variety of ways to deal damage due to the Action Commands, badges, partners or in TTYD's case Crystal Stars. I really wish more games would incorporate this kind of gameplay (hell, maybe harder) since it really does have a lot of potential.
Also it being linear isn't a bad thing and there are a lot of things you can do such as collecting Badges, Star Pieces, the mail for Parakarry, a couple optional bosses like Kent C. Koopa & the dojo bosses and etc.
