You know, all of your devotion to shitting on VR is genuinely sad. I'm not investing in it yet, but the idea it's totally shit is just idiotic. Watch or listen to anyone who tries a decent VR game and they all think it's really cool.

That's enough.

No one liked 3D televisions or Kinect when they tried them. People do find VR kind of cool, and that means there's a market for it.

The only complaint I've seen for VR is that there's no amazing games for it. Like, of course there isn't it's new tech. If you buy something without doing research into the games then you're an idiot.
>>
>>377764278
As a Vive owner and former 3D monitor owner, this makes sense.

I actually take the time to dick around on various things in VR about once a week. The porn is fantastic, too.

When I had a 3D monitor, it was cool for about 2 hours, and I never used it in 3D ever again.

I'm probably never going to be able to play it because i get motion sickness easily, but it atleast seems interesting.

Atleast with motion controls moving around was annoying. What's wrong with VR aside from the price tag?
>>

>>
>>377765028
I really want VR to succeed, but the only fun VR game I've played is Onward (And Elite Dangerous, but that's not really a "VR" game). The biggest issue is that it costs a shitload on top of a computer that already has to be pretty much top of the line, so the install base is so small that there are no games being made for VR itself. I'd love for VR to be ~300-400 bux cheaper, and for more games to be made on it, but as it is now it's a self repeating cycle where only shitty shallow indie VR games get made for the system because there isn't a big enough install base, and because there are no games for VR there isn't anyone willing to buy into the tech so it's stuck at a high price.

Maybe when the second (or third?) Generation of Vive comes out it might be cheaper and easier to get into so we might see a bigger install base for VR games, but as it is now it's just in a shitty feedback loop that leads nowhere good.

I think if AAA games are willing to make a game that is also a VR game at the same time (like the new resident evil) we might see more people buy into VR, but a million puzzle room, scenic view, or shallow shootan games won't sell VR to your average consumer

There aren't really any appealing "system sellers" for the vive except maybe onward as was mentioned by >>377765519 , and even then it's one game. Even in the earlier years of the PS4 when it was just a bloodborne machine you still had the new final fantasy, nier, gravity rush, call of duty, battlefield, persona, kingdom hearts, etc to look forward to so your console purchase isn't a waste. VR has nothing in the future as it is right now

VR's actually not that dead, it's just getting a slow start. The main issues are high cost of entry, which companies are trying to get around with those shitty phone/tablet VR sets, and lack of worthwhile control options, which has been fixed pretty well by the oculus touch and vive dildos.
There's some great games like robo recall, and raw data too.

The other issue is stuff that just hasn't been fixed in games because it's something that really can't be fixed without thinking way outside the box. Movement. Almost every single VR game uses that teleportation shit. Until we fix that it's gonna be awkward, 100%. It's just how it's gonna be.

PSVR is awkward cause it's significantly more affordable (still way too expensive don't get me wrong) but the move controllers are shit. 100% straight up unadulterated garbage. The tracking is awful, they barely keep up with like 10mph hand movements, they barely track at all because of their 10 year old technology, it's just bad. Bad bad bad. Farpoint is an excellent example of how PSVR can work, but that's just cause the gun is definitely using some new tech inside of it. It's not just some piece of plastic you snap move controllersinto.

VR was for 30+ year olds who were promised VR in the 90's and got shit.
I was one of those kids, and I got really butthurt with all the fake advertisement back then.
So now that I have VR, that I can fly planes, and drive cars, etc., it's everything I wanted. I'm glad VR came out the way it did.
It was just a little niche that didn't take off with regular consumers, it fell into the "expensive and unessential gaming peripheral" category.
>>
>>377761758

>ITT anons think VR is dead
>ITT anons are happy about that thought

I like how when things sell well and people adopt it like crazy, it's "for casual/for normies" and when it isn't adopted by those same people you guys find ways to hate on it still. Guess what else the masses don't buy? Those $500+ graphics cards half of you gloat about having. Did those "fail" to? Were those a meme?

It's almost like the most high end, extremely expensive (overkill) tech just attracts the smallest following of the most dedicated gamers, as it always has. The only way regular people can get their hands on it is the stupid phone-face holsters and PSVR for something more mid-range, and those are both pretty shit experiences. The only thing viable right now and looks like it will have a future is the Vive, but it just happens to be at the top in tech and cost. So basically we won't see regular people get into it until something the equivalent of the vive is as cheap and easy to access as those retarded/hilarious phone masks.

>>377763447
>Rift guys just said fuck it, but they can't say the reason why

Could it, you know, maybe have something to do with that GIANT lawsuit that they lost millions on recently? Ontop of getting fucked over by the Vive popularity? Vive won the VR war, it's pretty much over. Might as well ask why Sega's next console isn't going to be at E3 this year.

>>
>>377768647
>there are TONS that were adapted to Oculus Rift DK2
That's not the same as being developed for VR. Do you not understand that RE7 went through development hell to make it compatible with both VR and without it? From the first or second year of development they had been working on the VR support. And Capcom built a brand new engine to support VR, and implemented several features to improve comfort, and tried a lot of different in-game things with it, making it the first true AAA VR venture.

PSVR might be weaker but it's not like it's a "gen behind". It just fucking came out. It's much better than phone vr. Your argument holds no water.

VR is not dead because they haven't actually made the huge leaps yet. Everything so far has been more or less to Facebook and Valve's expectations. It's a gradual process and they have yet to actually waste a single penny. Every expense they've both made to this point has been calculated, all building up to when the tech finally becomes accessible enough for the mass market; the playing field they're currently building now is to ultimately facilitate that very moment and shift, allowing the market to plant its feet firmly on the ground and into wallets everywhere.

Refute me. Try it. I dare you.

Just Valve. Oculus was blowing a lot of smoke up everyones ass, including Facebook, that they were gonna manage to sell CV1s as general monitor alternatives, primarily to SPORTS FANS so they could WATCH THE BIG GAME IN VR COURT-SIDE SEATING. Their poor performance is why they purged Oculus at the start of the year and have since turned 100% into their forthcoming 'standalone' (unlike HTC/Valve which are pursuing both independently).

It hasn't really taken off when big companied already made their own versions with exclusives in mind.
That was a terrible idea to split non-existent market even before it was born.
Fuck corporations, it is their fault.
>>
>>377765028
VR isn't a 3D revolution, nor is it color TV.

It is a solo experience in the real world and the video game genre catalog gets smothered as first person for every genre. Wow, I wonder why VR is called a dead end! Investors who pushed the VR meme have buyers remorse. The real money will be in hologram technology.
>>
>>377772642
And this is why it's failing. Not because it's actually bad, but too few these days wants to take a risk with a new technology. But that's fine. It'll be more profitable in the end to have longterm experience in a fledgling technology than to try to hop in once it's "safe" to do so.
>>
VR won't ever truly break into the mainstream gaming scene until it can simulate lucid dreaming. I'm talking full brain to game integration, Matrix style.

Until that time, it will be a gimmick like waggle controls. No one wants to set up an entire room for that shit, think aboit what a pain it was to properly setup a room for a Kinect.

When you can lay down and plug in, then, and only then, will it catch on.
>>
>>377771795
>It's the consumer's fault that this extremely expensive hardware with strict requirements and a shallow selection of quality software isn't selling!

this is a very bad philosophy to take for someone who wants to make products to sell.
>>
>>377773364
No it's the people who are actual creators that listen to naysayers. Obviously my market would only be the people who bought VR. However, just like Super Mario Bros. helped sell Nintendos, maybe a developer could make a game that helps sell VR.

Just saying, if you are going to make statements shaming people for not buying something, you've got something off in your basic understanding of consumer/business relationships.

>The Lab is free and has higher production quality than a priced shovelware game
>Robo Recall is a full game that is free with touch controls
>Space Pirate Simulator is Geometry Wars in VR
Please tell me again how these games you've never played are shovelware?

Light gun shooters covered these bases decades ago. They all look like they're made by teams of 3-10 on a very low budget. Where's the elaborate cast and story that requires production houses to execute and animate? The full 15+ hour sense of progressing through a multitude of wildly imaginative and hand crafted environments?

The real game releases so far this year are non-VR. Literally almost every release this year, including ME:A and Yooka Laylee, is better and closer to being a real game. This stuff is all school project level still.

Ten years ago Call of Duty Modern Warfare graphics came out. I'm gonna wait another ten years and then hop on the VR train. Maybe then they'll figure out a way to actually control it like a human and not this touch warp shit.

is it gud?

VR is fine hardware wise. The only people making porn for it is weebs and furries though.

I'm obviously biased, but I personally think its the best VR game out there right now. We're trying to legit raise the bar of vr games, since so many of them are fucking trash.
